@MadManLeaks @fyrebear Yea there are lots of emo fans. Reed should have been playing 35 minutes in the PG spot all season. Not just in the playoffs. Also further back the stone should have picked up a legit PG knowing FVV was hurt. But you can’t depend on Stone for any logic.

Rockets fans have been yelling for Reed Sheppard to play more all season. Then KD goes down and Reed is forced to play and now I have never seen folks been so low on Reed lol yall just think about that

I appreciate the response. I would argue these in response to your answers… 1. It’s not hard to draft when you are in the top 5. Mock drafts everywhere and it’s kinda known who is going where within the top 5. I like Green and Jabari and I give him points on Sengun because that was a trade up, but anyone in the top 5 can’t really screw up too bad (happens but rare) 2. I’m not real sure on this angle. We do have a couple good contracts, but also some terrible ones. Capela, DFS major Ls. Added JD Davison when possibly could have had CP3. 3. He micromanages coach by adding/subtracting talent on the roster. That has been a major fail particularly this season by not getting a PG which was a massive gap on the roster…then yesterday doubled down on not adding a PG. 4. 6 year turnaround isn’t necessarily fast. They tanked for 3 years and when you get top 5 picks over and over it’s hard not to eventually turn that around.

1). He’s drafted very well (outside of Sheppard) 2). He got everyone to sign below market deals to invest back in the program. 3). He hired a strong personality as coach and doesn’t try to micromanage him very often. 4). Turned this team around fast and the last step he hasn’t taken is the hardest one

I think Rafael Stone is a very good GM but this answer is disingenuous. Dennis Schroeder checks every box he mentioned in what he wants in a PG. and he was available at a VERY reasonable price. And what makes it worse is that Reed Shepherd, who inherited Van Vleet’s minutes, is the OPPOSITE of the kind of PG he claims to value x.com/mshap2/status/…

Sengun was averaging 36 mpg early in the season, by far the most of his career, and the Rockets smartly dialed that back a bit when it was clear the minutes plus the added offensive responsibilities were taking a toll
Paulo Alves@PauloAlvesNBA

Here's a very interesting answer from Ime Udoka regarding Alperen Sengun and Eurobasket, how he hit the ground running early in the season but, like Manu and Tony Parker in SAS, it felt like he hit a wall physically mid-season. Please listen.

I think Stone has to go. It’s just unbelievable that he can sit there and act like we don’t need a PG. Ok, we tried that this year…it was a mess, even with KD…remember the double team fiasco? Fred coming back will help and Reed should improve, but what if one of them go down? It’s crucial that we have a solid backup PG and Center. The other positions are more fluid.

Only one Rockets player in franchise history has had a better single season 3PT% than Kevin Durant (41.3%) on over 5 threes attempted per night. Guess the player:

Rockets GM Rafael Stone on season: "Disappointing. We expected to win more games in the regular season than we did. We expected to win more games in the playoffs than we did. I understand that we took a lot of injuries, but the expectation for winning is with the players we have"

Here is Rafael Stone's full, 3 minute answer to the "Why didnt you get a true PG question?". It didnt boil down to the single quote everybody is throwing around, he goes pretty in depth into what went into the decision. Listen to it, it'll serve you better than a one liner.

Not that I expected anything insightful from this presser, but I don’t know what “adding a PG for PG’s sake” means. More often that not, the Rockets couldn’t even get into sets. Not to mention, FVV last year largely wasn’t a “threat after the initial pass.” Whatever.
Varun Shankar@ByVarunShankar

Stone said doesn't feel adding a PG for PG's sake is helpful. Doesn't want someone who just gets you into sets / isn't a threat after the initial pass / can't defend or shoot.

Ime Udoka on if the offense will be different next year -- he says he expects to play differently offensively next year just based on the personnel that was missing (Fred, Adams, KD at the end). He says he does not see any changes to the coaching staff.

Realistic moveable salary for the Rockets this offseason: DFS: 13.3M Adams: 13M Capela: 7M Davison: 2.6M If they don’t like Adams coming off injury that’s 35.9M to improve their shooting. If they have their non-taxpayer MLE, Robert Williams (UFA) is a great option.
