@markmccaughrean X-rays seem pretty uninvasive way to check there are no serious breaks, unless you're having a lot of them. Was amazed by the 3D CT of my skull.

@zemogle Ibuprofen the first week; the diclofenac when the fracture was diagnosed. Very Dutch medicine; their perspective is that it’s best to avoid things like x-rays until definitively needed. Overall, I’ve been very impressed by their approach over the years.

Once again, I'm amazed at how utterly brilliant #NHS is. I had a bad bike accident and am awaiting surgery on my face. Everyone I've seen has been professional, friendly and highly capable.

I love reading but only recently rediscovered the joy of reading an actual, paper book.

@markmccaughrean That type of diagnostic medicine is the worst. Hope you had lots of pain meds.

@zemogle And by the next day, I couldn’t walk. Went to the doctor & they said “probably strained muscles; come back in a week if it isn’t better.” It wasn’t so I did; they then x-rayed & found fracture. No surgery possible there, so took quite a while to heal.

@markmccaughrean You win. That sounds horrifically painful

@zemogle Sheesh – that doesn’t good. All the best for a full & quick recovery – took me quite a while to get over my last big splash, when I was knocked off my bike by a moped & fractured my pelvis.

@zemogle Ouch – my astronomical image processing experience doesn’t give me any basis for analysing medical scans, but that looks very asymmetric, Ed 😬 Hope the surgery goes well & all power to you for continuing to cycle. Was this accident self-inflicted or were others involved?

And to the young people still reading: there are REALLY GOOD PEOPLE in academia who have risen to leadership positions despite all this nonsense. Change is hard but it’s possible. Never stop demanding change.

Dad would have turned 80 today.

Just testing out a new telescope and camera for @LCO_global, with this image of Andromeda Galaxy, including M32 and M110. So far pretty impressed.
