@Tanni_GT Makes me sad, it should not take @itvnews media exposure of their discriminatory 158 mobility scooter policy, social media or the threat of litigation for @northernassist to prioritise and act Sadly, too often it’s only litigation or @railandroad that forces them to do anything

A bewildering decision when Glasgow has some of the world's top street artists who would create something far better for a small fee. Commission a real artist!

NEW: Glasgow City Council has just approved a massive AI-generated mural to be painted in the city centre. The illustration of Scottish elements inexplicably contains a bald eagle. The planner says those upset about it are "keyboard warriors" who should "calm down"

We keep hearing about pubs & live music venues closing down but for many disabled people they were already closed to us. No access or no toilets (yes in places that sell liquid to drink!) mean many of these places closing have no impact on us at all.

A woman in Saskatchewan needs surgery for a parathyroid issue and is being offered MAiD instead. There’s no one in the province who can perform the procedure and the government won’t pay to send her elsewhere. This is why disability advocates warn about assisted dying

People think you’re “choosing” what to do in a day with chronic illness. They don’t understand you’re budgeting energy like money. If you shower, maybe you can’t cook. If you run errands, maybe you can’t socialize. If you work today, tomorrow you might be bed-bound. One medical exam can mean a flare for a week. If you push once. You pay twice. Every action has a cost that no one else can see.

Telling a struggling neurodivergent person that they just need to try harder is like telling a person who can't walk that they just need to try harder to walk. It's not about trying harder. It's about trying DIFFERENTLY. And most disabled people can't do that without help.

I was diagnosed with myositis at the same time I was diagnosed with lupus. 10% of lupus patients always get myositis. Myositis isn’t “being a bit tired” or “just needing to push through.” It’s a chronic, inflammatory muscle disease that literally weakens the muscles you need for everyday life - walking, lifting, even breathing on bad days. There’s no cure. Management is a delicate balance of medication, pacing, and keeping what strength you still have from fading. And here’s the thing: exercise is not optional for people with myositis - it’s part of treatment. It’s targeted strengthening to stop muscles from deteriorating further. If I don’t move, I lose strength. If I don’t keep what I have, I lose independence. Going to the gym isn’t me “being fine” or “faking it.” It’s me doing the work required to stay functional. Taking care of your body is not the same thing as being able to hold a job.
A 30 minute controlled, prescribed workout doesn’t equate to being able to work an eight-hour shift, stay cognitively sharp, commute, mask symptoms, or recover from the crash afterwards. The fact I can strengthen my muscles doesn’t magically erase the reality of living with a disabling condition. And guess what? Employers don’t line up to hire a 40 year old with a 20-year employment gap and a chronic, variable illness. Disabled people are constantly told to “prove” how disabled we are, and then criticised when we do anything to help ourselves. If you want to support someone with myositis, start by understanding the condition instead of judging the survival strategies required to live with it.

The Health Foundation has estimated that around 30,000 extra beds would meet these demands and end brutal corridor care. Costs would be around £7b per year (+£20b one-off capital investment). We pay over £15b per year to private providers. Corridor care is a political choice.
ITV News@itvnews

Footage shared with ITV News has revealed “warzone” corridor care at an NHS hospital. The videos filmed this week at Queen’s Hospital in East London appear to show elderly and vulnerable patients left for days in cramped passageways instead of wards.

If this happens I think the ramifications for Labour are unimaginable. For disabled people they'll be even worse. Chancellor’s reported plans to impose VAT on Motability could add £3,000 to even the cheapest cars – Disability News Service share.google/OPi47Ry7umLwus…

Turns out ghosting candidates can come with legal fees. An employee sued Workday for AI discrimination… and just turned it into a landmark case. A federal judge certified it as a collective action. Thousands of job seekers auto-rejected by AI could soon have legal standing too. This is gonna get messy isn't it?

New “trains of the future” will have self-balancing snack tables and cinema-style onboard entertainment, but wheelchair users still won’t be able to board independently. An enraging reminder that we disabled people live in a different universe than our nondisabled peers.
