It's crazy how insanely people be gassing up the difficulty of Matador in Nocturne. In the grand scheme of RPGs I can name like ten wake-up call bosses that took me way longer. Istg if Xenosaga Ep I came out today you'd have people calling it the Dark Souls of JRPGs.

@MegatenQuotes You could make a good argument for it being any of the first three SMTs, and although I'd personally call SMTI the most influential, it's damn hard to argue against II's merits. Its presence can still be felt in the series to this day.

SMT II is the single most important game in all of Megaten, and it's a shame the entirety of the Western fanbase either has limited access to it, has played a fan translation, or will never play it at all.

It's nothing substantial, but seeing stuff the Nanjo Group get mentioned, Dr. Edogawa talk about YHVH and Masakado, and the elemental rings be named after the Hindu Atma Avatars of Digital Devil Saga puts a big grin on my face.

Love how many cool and subtle references Persona 3 makes to the Megami Tensei games that came before it. Really justifies my choice to play hundreds of hours worth of (relatively) niche games before the popular one that everyone recommends you play first.

Had a bit of a Persona 3 rage moment when I got 7k yen from a chest and then got two-shot by a random encounter I couldn't run from, but other than that, it's pretty fun. One More is a cool system and any RPG with tension-filled dungeon crawling is good in my book.

Actually I might be remembering wrong but I think the SNES games do this as well, but I wouldn't know because there's basically never any reason to use physical skills in those games, esp over gun or bufu/zio spam.

Always like how the PS2 Megaten games use HP instead of MP/SP for physical skills. It's an added element of resource management and risk-reward, and the games that lack it just aren't quite as interesting imo (except Strange Journey because it can do no wrong).
