Things wouldn’t have escalated to the school kidnapping in Oriire if the Oyo State government had taken decisive action after the Bodija explosion.
On January 16, 2024, an IED ripped through Bodija GRA in Ibadan. Gov. Seyi Makinde confirmed it was explosives illegally stored by miners operating outside the law. The blast killed 5, injured 77, destroyed 50+ houses, and left a crater felt across multiple neighborhoods. Investigations even found foreign names tied to the company, showing how transnational these illegal mining networks are.
That wasn’t just a mining accident. Across Nigeria, illegal mining finances banditry, brings in weapons, and creates armed gangs in the forests. When the government ignores it, the problem doesn’t stay in the mines. It spills into communities.
Fast forward to May 15, 2026, gunmen attacked schools in Oriire LGA, abducting 46 teachers and pupils. One teacher was killed in captivity. The same IEDs used to kill soldiers during the rescue operation were planted by the kidnappers, the same type of explosives that leveled Bodija.
If Oyo State had regulated mining, enforced explosive storage laws, and prosecuted the Bodija operators in 2024, those networks would have been disrupted before they could hit schools in 2026.

@foreverepiq Take life with one step at a time. Don't hurry to grow up. Adulthood will humble you 🤗

As a kid, you think the world is moving slow, and you're in a hurry to grow—then you grow up and start begging for life to slow down just so you can keep up.
Interesting, isn't it...?.
Enjoy "process," grow through it, learn life and how to live it—because where you're in a hurry to get to requires the version of you that's been trained and built spiritually, mentally, and physically to withstand intense pressure without breaking.
