@DivineStudi0s @SapientiaNight This is a difficult genre to get right, best I can tell you is to do your own thing and see how it lands. There’s no set rulebook on how to make an action game, so don’t feel afraid of putting your own spin on the formula.
English

@DivineStudi0s @SapientiaNight That’s something for you to decide. A combat system can be as simple or complex as you want it to be, so long as you are willing to structure and adjust the games designs around it to match it.
English

Been experimenting with something new for combat 👇
You can now chain 3 different weapons into a single combo in the air, and switch between them freely to reposition both on ground and mid-air.
Still testing some animation cancel tech

@SapientiaNight @DivineStudi0s You can add a randomizer to your favorite action game and it gives you the benefits that a roguelike would give you it, without all the pitfalls that come with following that design.
English

@SapientiaNight @DivineStudi0s Roguelike design provides a service that action games already provide in their design, which is replayability for diversity of experience.
Like I'm thinking of any well-regarded action game and trying to imagine what turning it into a roguelike would add to it, and i got nothing.
English

@DivineStudi0s @SapientiaNight Because it shapes how a player handles their progression with the gameplay over time.
And I also have a preference when levels are designed with a clear start and finish in mind, take the attempt to make more memorable on subsequent playtroughs.
English

@DivineStudi0s @SapientiaNight Personally, I don’t think procedurally generated design works well for the genre
Enemy placement, what areas in a game any specific enemy spawns in, and also the level design is an important aspect of an action game that in my opinion should not be randomized-

@dav_ray71 @Maruisalone May I ask what part of having so much of your toolkit tied to cooldowns is deep and engaging?

@PandaKingEX @LuisRodrguezVa3 They still do to this day without ever giving it a proper chance
English

@LuisRodrguezVa3 Same it’s godlike but that wasn’t the popular narrative at release people were talking mad shit
English

Bros so desperate that they are finally giving lost soul aside validation after trashing the hell out of it when it released.

Playstation has "No Games" narrative destroyed. #PS5 💪

@buriedlocket I believe Trigun, Gungrave and Kekkai Sensen are all of Nightows works that got an animated adaptation.
English

@zoadssjgod This is my first time hearing there’s an anime! I guess I just assumed people were talking about the game when they referenced it, I’ll need to check that out too
English

@buriedlocket The first Gungrave was really fun! I never got around playing the rest of the series
Reminds me I still have to check out the anime one of these days…
English

@zoadssjgod The guy who designed the angel arm apparently went on to work on all the gun grave games too so I guess him and Nitow’s design work compliment each other! Mechanical designers are so impressive to me 😭
English

@buriedlocket Yeah I knew about the magazine going under, but I did not know that Nightow helped write the animes storyline and then reusing concepts in Maximum.
The anime staff had some real talent to come up with something that fits the exact same aesthetic and themes as the source material.
English

@zoadssjgod Later Nitow was offered another publishing spot and asked to be able to continue the story of Trigun, which is where we get Trigun maximum! That’s why you see some similarities in trimax and 98 despite all the differences, he either suggested that for 98 or liked and kept it
English

@buriedlocket Wait really? That’s really cool!
I thought Trigun had already ended its run by the time the anime aired, so they were being worked on at the same time? I remember the last thing they adapted from the manga before going fully original was the first chapter of Trigun Maximum.
English

@zoadssjgod It was actually designed by Noriyuki Jinnguji for the 98 anime!! Nitow liked the design so much he used it exactly as is for the manga. The body horror in general in the manga and 98 is so stunning
English

@AJ_psykos2 Saddest thing is they mostly just acted like opps
We all knew they were brother fandoms

Covid was the era where I awakened to the fact that I might just be more fiscally responsible than executives at billion dollar companies.

Bandai wasted 15 billion yen for Gundam Metaverse lmao

@Skillful__ @StellaNoxEclair Dragon quest is massive in Japan though, children are definitely playing it over there
English

@StellaNoxEclair Most JRPGS have an audience like this unless it's like Pokemon Danganrompa or Persona to be fair, i dont know how many teens are playing Dragon Quest or Ys for example lol
English

This series used to be so powerful it had the ability to shape culture and now it's statistically "Unc gaming"
