The bag in question contains language that reinforces a harmful and widely recognized racial stereotype. In the context of the ongoing humanitarian crisis and war in West Asia, where the same community targeted by this stereotype is currently facing severe humanitarian suffering and violence, the product is not only inappropriate but profoundly insensitive. It comes across as a mockery of the suffering of this region and manufactures dangerous consent for harm to befall people in the region. On top of that, this puts a massive liability and security risk to global fans who may be detained at airport security checkpoints if they travel with this merchandise. Especially in Trump’s America, where brown and black people are targeted with violence and deportation by ICE. This is not a minor oversight. The release of such an item reflects a serious lack of cultural, geopolitical awareness and responsibility, particularly from a company representing artists with a global and diverse fanbase. Especially in today’s geopolitical climate.
