@MehdiHacks @Spacecolonize I've been using a dental xray for pcb inspection. The fov of maybe 25x25mm is quite limiting and larger chips require stitching which is annoying but workable.

Dear Twitter, Do you know any small X-ray machine with reasonable pricing? It's the number 1 item on my wish list. I want it for device/chip/PCB inspection. I know that even if you have the money (or space), getting a permit would be a headache though😕

@qwertymodo @jeffqchen try working with Altium defaults... I never touch it anymore in favor of kicad. Money well wasted.

@jeffqchen Oh, I'm learning it. Gotta wean myself off EAGLE before it goes EOL. I just can't for the life of me understand how they managed to build something so great and then fuck up the default settings so thoroughly.

The more time I spend in KiCAD, the more I realize that most of the reason I was turned off the first time I tried it out was because of how spectacularly they have managed to choose the worst defaults for almost everything. Once you fix all the dumb settings, it's great!

@zzattack your top.jpg has these as 3MH 0201 indcutors but i cant find a 3MH 0201 inductor anywhere is there a chance it was read wrong or what is a suitable alternative?

@sthetixofficial @obnoxiousMods I'm guessing from my handwriting it's uH. Measurements could be off, they were done by LCR tweezers and it was quite tedious so definitely not perfect. you can typically deduce the exact component from reference schematics of the surrounding ic

@sthetixofficial I'm lost on this, and hopefully you'll have a record of what I'll need. I tried modding my switch OLED without a digital microscope and have utterly mucked a few things up. One was a resistor or capacitor that I sent into oblivion. Any idea what values it is?

@RetroRandRs look at the "rev 1.6 128MB ram upgrade". you can stack a new RAM chip on top of any of the other 3 and use only the /CE from its dedicated line

@makerprobe My experience with reballing is one of applying flex then removing pretty much everything until you can’t see it anymore, way past the point where you think “surely it’s too little now”. Otherwise, there’s at least one or two balls that start traveling.

My fail of the week. Because I hate LGAs so much I decided to pre-ball an LGA. No stencil, just tacky flux, balls and tweezers. Didn't work too well because the flux tends to guide the balls towards each other and they just combine into bigger ones, or don't stick at all.

@Jcmejiaus @sthetixofficial heat up a corner for a few seconds to soften the glue; after that it pulls up easily with fine tweezers and once you have the first part going you can tug on that for a very simple removal

I just found out that the OLED has a default screen guard/screen protector applied by Nintendo from their factory. But Nintendo says you shouldn't remove it. Thanks to falconmick on Discord for informing this little stuff. I should have known it from years ago.

If suddenly your OLED fan turns itself on after you plug in the battery connector, look no more, just replace that tiny bastard. That chip controls the joycon charging and the fan. As you can see, even a little crack on its corner, the effect is fatal.
