What are the econ/pub-policy PhD-admission folks looking for in the SoP? Asking for the RAs. I had the impression that it shouldn't matter that much but things might have changed (or I was wrong in the first place, which is more likely than unlikely).

Last time I was on a hiring committee they literally did not give us access to the job market paper or letters or anything else until Stage 2, after the first stage of screening.

Dear Job Candidates: don't half-ass the research and diversity statements. At some institutions the hiring committee is barred in Stage 1 of the review from seeing the rest of your packet.
