The UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has reported that over 87% of crypto registrations were either rejected, withdrawn, or refused as part of its efforts to tackle fraud and improve consumer protection. In its 2023-24 Annual Report, the FCA introduced new marketing regulations for crypto assets and emphasized its focus on global collaboration to enhance oversight. Key highlights from the report include: Over 87% of crypto registration applications were either rejected, withdrawn, or refused. The FCA supports firms seeking authorization by providing guidance on best practices, with 44 crypto firms successfully registered for money laundering compliance. Stricter marketing rules for crypto promotions were implemented in early 2024, requiring a 24-hour cooling-off period for investors and categorizing cryptoassets as "Restricted Mass Market Investments" to protect consumers from high-risk investments. In the first three months of these rules taking effect, the FCA issued 450 consumer alerts against firms engaging in illegal crypto promotions.
