Ik heb een groot deel van mijn werkende leven in West-Afrika en het Midden-Oosten doorgebracht. Wat mij opvalt in het Nederlandse debat is de stuitende naïviteit over de 'maakbaarheid' van integratie. Men onderschat de diepe, tribale wortels en de enorme culturele kloof tussen deze regio's onderling. De sprong van een feodale structuur naar onze hyper-individuele westerse vrijheid is voor velen simpelweg te groot om in een paar jaar te overbruggen. Dat is geen oordeel, maar een observatie uit de praktijk. Natuurlijk zijn er individuen die het wonderlijk goed doen en volledig aarden. Maar wie de intrinsieke structuren van deze samenlevingen kent, ziet ook een andere realiteit. Bij specifieke groepen blijft de loyaliteit aan de eigen cultuur, religie en het herkomst land altijd primair. De droom blijft daar, hoe slecht het er ook was. Volledige trouw aan de Nederlandse waarden is voor hen een brug te ver. Dat is geen onwil, maar een diepgewortelde culturele programmering die we in onze westerse naïviteit volledig onderschatten. En laten we onszelf niet voor de gek houden: bij een specifieke groep in Nederland is dit geen naïviteit, maar een bewuste agenda. Zij weten dondersgoed wat er gebeurt, maar offeren de stabiliteit van onze samenleving op voor politiek gewin, geldelijk gewin uit de asiel industrie, of simpelweg om hun eigen 'deug syndroom' te voeden. Het is een giftige mix van eigenbelang en ideologische blindheid, waarbij de rekening, cultureel en financieel, volledig bij de burger wordt neergelegd."

Democracy demands respect, not hatred. Along with other groups, Renew Europe condemns the surge of verbal violence and 'deportation' rhetoric in the European Parliament. We call on @EP_President Metsola to sanction those who are undermining our dignity! Hate has no place in 🇪🇺

Just leaving appears to be the only way for Trump to go home and declare victory. However, US influence in the region would then collapse, as Iran could condition access through the Strait of Hormuz on the expulsion of US bases, demand reparations, and sell oil in currencies other than the dollar. Underestimating Iran was truly a historic mistake.
