If you’re still living with the mentality that your 20s are for enjoyment alone, then you’re probably using an outdated playbook. Before you attack me, hear me out. I’m not saying you shouldn’t have fun. Travel. Hang out with friends. Create memories. Enjoy life. But somewhere along the line, a lot of people misunderstood what their 20s are supposed to be. Many people treat their 20s like a waiting room. A period where nothing serious needs to happen. A period where they can keep saying: “I still have time.” “I’m not yet 30.” “Life starts at 30.” But does it really? Look around. The world has changed. Today, there are founders building companies at 22. CEOs leading teams at 25. Creators building audiences in their early 20s. Developers, designers, entrepreneurs, and professionals creating opportunities for themselves long before 30. Again, this isn’t just about money. It’s about life. It’s about taking responsibility for your future while you still have energy, time, and options. One thing I’ve noticed is that many people think deeply about their future only when they feel pressure. And sometimes, that pressure comes late. Whether it’s career, finances, relationships, health, or family planning, many people assume they have unlimited time. But time moves faster than we think. Let’s do some simple math. If you spend your 20s saying, “I’m still young,” then suddenly you’re 30. A few years later, you’re 35. Then 40. And you start wondering where all the years went. The truth is that most major outcomes in life don’t happen because of decisions you make at 40. They happen because of habits and decisions you started building years earlier. This is why I believe your 20s shouldn’t be about enjoyment alone. They should be about preparation. Preparation doesn’t mean suffering. It doesn’t mean becoming a workaholic. It simply means being intentional. Learn the skill. Build the business. Grow your career. Take your relationships seriously. Invest in your health. Think beyond next weekend. Because while you’re telling yourself you still have time, someone else your age is quietly building the life they’ll be living ten years from now. And here’s the interesting part: The people who make the most of their 20s usually enjoy their 30s even more. Not because they got lucky. But because they spent their early years building foundations instead of postponing everything. So no, I don’t think your 20s are for enjoyment alone. I think your 20s are for building.
