Kurzes Update zur Hardware-Wallet-Schwachstelle. Ich habe gestern bei der Recherche scheinbar zwei unabhängige Tangem-Schwachstellen zu einer zusammengefasst. Das tut mir leid. Fakt ist: Bei der aktuellen Schwachstelle kann ein Angreifer mit spezieller Laborausrüstung und physischem Zugriff auf die Karte den PIN sogar vollständig zurücksetzen, ohne den bisherigen PIN oder eine Backup-Karte zu benötigen. Anschließend lassen sich Transaktionen signieren und die Wallet leeren. Das Ergebnis ist dasselbe, das ich bereits im gestrigen Beitrag beschrieben habe. 1. Der Angriff ist nicht aus der Ferne möglich. Er erfordert, dass der Angreifer die Karte physisch besitzt, den Chip öffnet und hochspezialisierte Fault-Injection-Technik einsetzt. Für normale Diebe ist das daher praktisch keine realistische Bedrohung. 2. Besonders problematisch ist, dass Tangem keine Firmware-Updates unterstützt. Die Schwachstelle kann daher nachträglich nicht behoben werden. Nutzer sollten ihre Karte deshalb niemals aus der Hand geben. 3. Geht die Karte verloren oder wird gestohlen und besteht die Möglichkeit, dass sie in die Hände eines professionellen Angreifers gelangt ist, sollten die Coins vorsorglich auf eine neue Wallet übertragen werden. Der Fall zeigt, dass unveränderbare Firmware zwar Vorteile bietet, im Falle eines Fehlers aber auch bedeutet, dass Sicherheitslücken dauerhaft bestehen bleiben können. Trotzdem möchte ich auch hier betonen: Bitte geratet nicht in Panik. Die Wahrscheinlichkeit, dass ein derartiger Angriff ausgerechnet auf eure Wallet durchgeführt wird, ist äußerst gering. Das Risiko besteht zwar grundsätzlich, ist für die allermeisten Nutzer in der Praxis jedoch sehr niedrig. Stay Safe.
