That’s probably right Gab. I’m not close to the behind the scenes anymore They are all decent people trying their absolute best I’m sure and ultimately it comes down to those players performing at the best of their abilities. Lots of injuries don’t help. We should be doing a damn sight better than we are that’s for sure

Thanks Paul. On the pitch, I’m sure that’s true. Off it, I wonder if there’s been a slightly abbeline culture. Gareth likes judging what he sees in front of him not reputation, and trusted the players when they were on best behaviour. Joe only does contracts, not a huge footballing man. Andy maybe didn’t feel he had the status to challenge management, and Brad & Shannon wanted to back their man. So all those things may have combined to create a situation where you end up sticking with players who gave you the same issues last year.

I think confidence is a huge thing in a team Gab. Ours has evaporated. The identity of Gills is no longer there and it is that spirit that you need over a season to get through those bad runs you have and this squad just don’t seem to have it for whatever reason. Leadership seems sadly lacking on the pitch perhaps due to the fact that most of the squad probably know they won’t be there next season. That malaise is like a virus that spreads through a dressing room.

@Checkfish @GermanGills @EFL I’d be glad if you could shed some light on what you think has gone awry for Gillingham, Paul. For instance, do you share my view that the club were too loyal to last season’s personnel in the summer, because of the unbeaten run?
