@CleanersFor Re your deleted comment on pay review bodies: Custom & practice has established that unions can have lawful disputes with their de jure employers even when pay review bodies that make recommendations and are then accepted by the government of the day are de facto third parties.

@leftacademic But the strategy leans on point b) 'cannot be settled without him exercising a power conferred on him by or under an enactment.' The enactment in this case being HERA 2017.

@CleanersFor There is no easy alternative given the anti-union laws. Section 244(2) of relevant Act (legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1992/52/…) is about pay review bodies and so difficult to see how this could be used in the way suggested.

@engasal What's also funny is the idea that organising workers in the complex supply chain of weapons manufacturing indulges in old ideas of effective agency, while assuming 1-day external disruptions of these workplaces doesnt also indulge in an old idea of how production is disrupted.

Doing that would prevent them doing their job, which is research, competently composing arguments and valorising their academic capital etc.

In the end this is a covert charge of bad faith, right? As if you could just be a good faith Marxist, teach your students how the system works and how to change it, and the institution would go “yeah buddy well done thanks for completing the covert mission of the university“

Hickel then chaired a meeting in which the Anthrop staff explained their reasoning for sinking the action.
