Day 3. Staff at Capital City College Group are back on the picket line. The issues haven't changed: excessive workloads, inadequate student support, a management that won't meaningfully negotiate. This didn't have to happen. Staff have been raising these issues since January.

“I’m at risk” 2,700 at-risk letters sent at Nottingham. Staff response? They posted them on their doors. This is what solidarity looks like. Management says there’s no alternative. There is.

Today, @DrJoGrady stood with staff at @UCU_Ulster as they rally to fight back against plans to cut 450 jobs. 15% of the workforce. Gone. UCU has called it “unprecedented” and we mean it. Ulster staff are not alone. Show your support✊

Words without money mean nothing. The King’s Speech promised to invest in young people. Two months ago the government cut college budgets. @DrJoGrady: “We need action, not rhetoric.” ucu.org.uk/article/14506/…

"This is vandalism." 2,700 staff at the University of Nottingham have received letters putting them at risk of redundancy. Members describe shock turning into anger and organisation. The message from staff is clear: these cuts are not necessary, and alternatives have already been put forward.

Yesterday Keir Starmer announced Labour will nationalise British Steel and save 2700 jobs. The Uni of Nottingham put 2700 staff at risk of redundancy. This is just one university. Across the UK 15,000 higher education jobs need saving. Where is the rescue package for our universities? Cities and towns will be devastated by these job losses.

“Asleep at the wheel.” The government has sleepwalked into a higher education crisis that we have been warning about for years. 24 universities facing potential insolvency. Thousands of job losses. Course closures. Campuses sold off. @DrJoGrady is calling for an emergency higher education taskforce so ministers directly intervene.

Adult and further education are both vital to enable people to help themselves and play active roles at work and in their community. My dad did his o levels in his 40s. it was the making of him. and he became chairman of school governing bodies in Northumberland
UCU@ucu

Labour say further education is central to their growth mission. “But they’re cutting adult education budgets. Staff are haemorrhaging from the sector and FE workers in England are paid less than anywhere else in the UK. If the government wants growth, it needs to put its hand in its pocket and invest in the people delivering it.” @DrJoGrady
