@realdanlee @CNN Bingo. To assume a newspaper should be endorsing a candidate is odd from the outset. Let's serve freedom with clarity increased by seeing the full scope of current events rather than build skewed nests to comfort the pampered

Thermoaesthetics
Thermoaesthetics@aghodgson·
"Well did Aristotle say that virtues in contrast to vices are judicious means between contrary extremes. But the principle holds much more generally than even Aristotle saw. It applies, for example, in aesthetic matters. Beauty, too, is a mean. It is not the opposite to ugliness. Ugliness is an incongruity, a disorder, a jolt; but the sheer absence of incongruity and disorder is not beauty. Rather, beauty and all aesthetic value is what, in the words of Kurt Sachs the musicologist, ‘lies between the fatal extremes of mechanism and chaos.’ By ‘mechanism’, understand a too strict and unrelenting orderliness, and by ‘chaos’, a sheer lack of order. In the first case there is too little surprise, sense of tension, or interest in how things may come out; in the second case there are no definite expectations to be met with pleased surprise or to awaken any desire to experience the outcome. With mechanism we are merely bored, with chaos merely confused. In neither way does the sense of beauty arise." — Charles Hartshorne, Wisdom as Moderation: A Philosophy of the Middle Way (1987)

@gerta_ma @TheFoundrySF Thanks for your emphasis on negotiating. I see a lot of arrangements get made where some involved parties were unaware of negotiable potential terrain. Important to prepare to pioneer areas lurking quietly on the table

I was recently invited to speak at @TheFoundrySF on startup negotiations. It’s amazing to think how much founders negotiate in startups, often without even realizing it. You might know about negotiations with cofounders, investors, potential employees, consultants, advisors, you should even negotiate with your lawyers (lawyer fees are some of your biggest expenses!), & if you’re lucky, you're negotiating your merger/acquisition deal. But you’re also negotiating on the day to day with direct reports, design partners, vendors, customers, & more. My 1st rec is to form your negotiation strategy. And for that, you need to get crystal clear with yourself on your priorities for each scenario. If you’re a founder, download a free negotiations resource on my website YourNegotiations.com. Thank you @colo, @DablClub, @Polygon, @chainlink, @Hadronfc for having me!

Yes it’s an employer’s market but companies who low-ball candidates just because they can are being short-sighted. ALL of my job offer negotiations clients who were strong-armed into accepting a low offer are still looking for other jobs. Companies are getting what they pay for.

@KlassyMcKlass No lol. If anything, It’s less appealing as a recruiter or the company as a whole bc realistically they’ll probably leave in less than a year for a higher paying role anyways

@gerta_ma There is often a lot of available budget for the right person. Good advice. In some situations it can be worth making the range up-side quite high if in interview you show knowledge about realtime value contribution impacting overall performance

When they ask, "What's your salary expectation?" Don’t give a number. Don’t give a range. It’s a trap. Some companies love to play games with salary ranges. They'll post something like $100K to $500K... Cool, but what does that mean for you?! Think of it like poker—would you show your hand before the other players? Exactly. You wouldn’t. Instead, flip the script. Stay quiet. Let them reveal their budget first. Let them make the first move. Hold your ground and keep the power in your hands. Because the moment you give a number, you give away control. And you’re worth more than that. Don’t sell yourself short. 💪 *** Are you making $150K+ annual base salary and have an upcoming offer or negotiation? Every founder walks this path at some point. I walked mine last year. And it led to the greatest 6 months of business growth we've ever had (and still going!). Here's a blog post I wrote for @hamptonfounders on all the mistakes I made 👇
