It has taken the #UNSC a month to adopt a resolution that - in its essentials - is pretty similar to what @Brazil_UN_NY put on table in mid-October. @MaltaUNMission deserves great credit for getting this across the line. But I fear this is mainly a device to ease tensions @UN.

🚨 #BREAKING - UN Security Council just passed a resolution focused on the plight of children in #Gaza! US abstained, which enabled the resolution to be adopted. There were 12 votes in favor, none against, 3 abstentions (US, UK, Russia) @hrw's reaction in a short thread 🧵

Over 110 UN member states are slated to speak at the #UNGA Emergency Special Session on the Middle East. Today, 13 of them spoke. I am not 100% convinced this is how you get rapid crisis response.
