I legitimately believe the Best-Of Prizing that Riftbound has introduced is genius. You give people attending your events a huge reason to play their pet deck while still rewarding grinders looking to win. It works well when testing too- since my Champion coaching sessions include some people who are looking to win the event (myself included) and also some others looking to win Best-Ofs, we are coming to tuned decklists to win the event which are in turn good practice for the Best-Of players to play against and tune their lists for the expected top meta Champs! It’s a novel and fun testing process, enjoying this game so much right now 😁

It’s literally higher EV to brew with janky “off-meta” decks and have fun on any deck you want even if it’s the literal worst deck in the game than it is to play the tier 0 best deck in the game and try to win the tournament. For perspective an Annie player made top 4 of the first NA regional. They got $2,000 in cash and then a top 8 MF promo. At best they made $10K from making top 4. Someone that went 6-3, didn’t make day 2, won best of Ahri and sold it for $40K within a month. Riftbound OP system is truly amazing. Rewards the grinders trying to win the tournament, rewards the grinders that want to optimize and play their favorite champion the best, it keeps the meta fresh and encourages people to find off meta decks highest potential and sometimes those decks even pop off as a dark horse and make top cut so you get the best of both worlds of having a deep finish and getting the best of prizing.

@NickCRobinson It's also works as a learning curve for players to understand what is good and what isn't. There's examples of the community hyping bad cards and underhyping great cards.

@NickCRobinson There was an blog post by Mark Rosewater that talked about this. Basically not all cards can be good, players want different things, draftabiltity of cards and differing power levels for alternate formats that are either supported or player made.

The one thing that will always bother me about TCGs is printing the most boring filler cards ever. I understand that not every card can be amazing but these aren’t even remotely interesting. They’re even bad by TCG Pocket standards! Like why even create this

What about a "Town Map" marker?
You can use Town Map during a deck search on your turn.
Turn all of your Prize cards face up (Those Prize cards remain face up for the rest of the game).
You can't use more than 1 Town Map in a game.

@NickCho It allows for shortcutting and judges to take into account the game/board state. For example if my first search is poffin and I have artazon/another searcher in hand, I think it would be reasonable to take 1 min on my first search providing the 2nd search is immediatey resolved.

@PokeDuelsTikTok They were based on points and split into each region. It would've been a nightmare to sort through the leaderboard list and remove LATAM players and players who aren't opted into Play! Rewards. I don't know how they'd rank players with the same amount of championship points

@DandoKP Yeah, but is this really an attractive item for collectors? As a strictly competitive player, I know I dont care about this at all outside of the value, and I thought people didnt typically like non-waifu (cringe) trainer cards. 🤔
