Global investing is open. Indian Mutual fund investors are capped. In 2008, India set a $7B limit for overseas mutual fund investments. In 2026, we're still operating within it. Global securities = $7B, with a $1B per AMC cap, exhausted since 2022. Overseas ETFs = $1B, with a $300M per AMC cap, exhausted in 2024. Both limits are already full. Once the cap is hit, AMCs must stop fresh overseas investments. Some schemes reopen when redemptions create space, but it's rare and unpredictable. Meanwhile, there are far more investors today. Total AUM is much higher. Ironically, HNIs can still go global through other routes. It's the retail MF investor who gets blocked. Time for an upgrade. How long do we keep playing a 2026 game with 2008 rules?

@indianviking1 Plus getting exposure to sectors/themes not possible in India plus rupee depreciation. But yes it does not mean India will never give returns again and foreign will always keep giving.

If you are doing international investing just to boost returns, you might be disappointed very soon. International diversification is for reduction in risk of portfolio and not necessarily for getting best returns.

The steel gate needed a smart card, and the staircase door stayed latched from inside. And yet serial rpist and murderer Rahul Meena entered the house, rped their daughter and murdered her. This happened because not all the security in the world can protect you and your family if you are an amateur and allow outsiders free access to your house. Police said the IRS officer and his wife usually left for the gym in the morning and tried not to disturb their daughter's sleep. "There was no way to enter via the staircase as it was latched from inside.
