@darthvalkyrie I'd like to know, too. It's a big problem. We need to bring back social stigma and consequences for bad behavior, for sure.

@DisaffectedPod True. Minimizing harm in a system shouldn’t involve managing badly behaved adults. I’m more wondering what can be done to bring about lower social tolerance for these behaviors at scale. I was just asking a question.

The reason we suffer for decades with narcissistic, manipulative, bad-faith people in our families and romantic lives is because we chose this. We engaging in "positive projection," which is a fancy way of saying "being blind and making exuses for the inexcusable." -J

@PLazarinho @DisaffectedPod Yeah but how does that quell their emergence? The conveyor belt keeps moving. Nipping these disorders in the bud starts early.

@darthvalkyrie It's not my responsbility, or yours, to "manage" other badly behaved adults. We don't have the power to change them.

@DisaffectedPod Doesn’t shutting it down quickly just funnel them off to their next targets? I’m all for firm pullback, but what of the neurochemical gridlock that keeps people antisocial? How can you swing it so that they don’t get better at hiding?

@dysangelistes @EBasilion You're pretending that you don't see that women like I'm talking about do it on purpose. You're pretending you don't know, and don't see, that she's baring her midriff. I don't converse with people who pretend not to understand. It's dishonest. I mute them.

@DisaffectedPod @EBasilion I am not gay, but I know enough women to know that many of them are genuinely not trying to send mating signals with their clothes.

@DisaffectedPod @EBasilion Why are you larping as manoshere douche? All you need to worry about is weather or not a queen is dressing to get your attention, not a woman.

Disaffected@DisaffectedPod

@EBasilion Bitch: 1. I'm gay. 2. You're lying, and you know you're lying. 3. You hate men noticing the games you play, because covert narcissism is your method.

@thebookofelim ANYTHING to get people out of responsibility. Anything at all. That's our modern stance. And it's conservatives, too. It's everyone. No one wants anyone to be responsible for anything they do.

"Positive projection": the thing you do that's getting you taken advantage of. Projection works in both directions. We can project our own negativity onto others, but we can also project our own positive traits onto others. Positive projection makes you a target and a doormat. These are positive projection: "I'm sure she didn't mean to act that way; she must just be having a bad day." "He just doesn't understand that people will react negatively when he acts that way. Poor him." "She must be really dumb. Sadly, she doesn't understadn that when she wears those clothes, she's going to get judgmental comments." These are almost never true. It's you projecting your own basically normal, decent traits onto people that are not normal and decent like you. They're liars, and they know they're lying. They are manipulating others, and you're helping them by giving cover. -Josh

@jmibullfrog @EBasilion I didn't misunderstand anything, and you know that. You also know that what you're saying is not true. You do know that women do this on purpose, but you're attached to simping for women, so you're pretending that you don't. That's why you're irritated at me. No matter.

As cheap and common as gay men getting defensive and misunderstanding what’s being said? The idiotic statement that men tend to make is that most women want their attention. Women dress for themselves and/or their friends. It’s really simple. There are exceptions, but the general rule is, men aren’t a part of their calculus.

Many people give way too much benefit of the doubt to people. Attention-seeking online people don't "misunderstand," and they're not "too dumb to realize what they're doing." They're not making mistakes. They don't fail to realize. They're doing it on purpose but PRETENDING that they're not. Too many people cooperate with them. Don't. Don't pretend along with them. Do not give them plausible deniability. They know what they're doing. They're lying when they say they don't. -Uncle Josh

Americans: get the category "creamer" out of your minds. It's not real, but we all act like it's normal. The stupid word comes from the idea of "something that 'creams' your coffee." Something *other than cream or milk*. As if "creaming coffee" were something utterly unconnected with cream or dairy, and that it's a job that some industrial slop can do just as well. I'm now noticing big dairy section signs at the grocery: CREAMER. Huh? And there's no sign pointing you to actual dairy CREAM. Two to four refrigerated cases of stupid slop from soybean oil-vanilla-gum-thing to oats or hemp or other "anything but real dairy" substitutes. Yeah, I know. "That's such a small thing." No, it isn't. It's an illustration of how we have slowly, over time, emptied out our brains of sense. We treat the fake CREAMER as if it's a Platonic food category that's normal, and act like we can't just put CREAM in the coffee. -J
