@Marilynrules1 @p_terg Until someone from the communities stands up and is counted. Take responsibility for it. There will always be people who put personal profit over people.

@Marilynrules1 @p_terg Is that not how it works already. RSLs normally have an aknowledgment of country plaque in the foyer. They organise the Dawn Service, they can organise the WTC. Meetings, speeches, concerts, some films all have some form of WTC.

@DonMackellar @p_terg So smoking ceremony was not used as a WTC. How about each RSL decide for themselves. In fact how about all people organizing a function decide for themselves what ceremonies they want to include. One reason people are objecting is they think it is being forced on them.

@DonMackellar @1337_mofo @p_terg AI overview: Aboriginals have specific words for smoking ceremonies, but there are 100's of distinct language groups, so there is no single, universal word for it. It is an ancient custom designed to cleanse people and spaces, ward off bad spirits, & promote healing or wellbeing.

@Marilynrules1 @p_terg I can only speak from personal experience, with the communities i have visited. But smoking was mainly used as a bush medicine, for lung complaints. Certain Eucalyptus leave were better than others.

@DonMackellar @p_terg There were over 250 Aboriginal languages and about 800 dialects before Europeans arrived. Not all tribes had the same traditions. I cant find any evidence a smoking ceremony was used as a 'welcome'. I think, for Anzac Day, each RSL group should decide for themselves.

@1337_mofo @Marilynrules1 @p_terg Aboringinal languages are spoken and not written down. You would have to ask for a translation in 200+ languages. Might i suggest universities that study anthropology.

@DonMackellar @Marilynrules1 @p_terg If its an established aboriginal tradition what is the aboriginal word for it and the transliteration - this should be easy to find from a similar period to your reference (which is dubious at best "welcome to our country" is common English, not the name of anything)

@Marilynrules1 @p_terg Yes its a welcome. It says they had a corroboree after dinner. But it does anwer the question that it is part of indigenous culture and alot older than what people think.

@DonMackellar @p_terg It is a welcome, but not a smoking ceremony. The sign, written in English, is not Aboriginal tradition. The exhibition of spears and boomerangs might be Aboriginal tradition. 1

Many ask "why not walk back to your car" Answer: We did not want them to damage our cars and also DOX what cars we drive/license plate. many people say that "we clipped the footage on purpose at around . " Answer: The DSLR Camera turned off and once we realized that, we turned on the 360 camera about 15 seconds later. I have received Dozens of Death Threats, possibly due to David and Anthony Vulin falsely claiming that I called them Gay Slurs and that they were being pushed around by people, also claiming that they were the ones being chased, These 2 men followed us 400 feet down the street to continue to attack us, they put a baby's life in danger. These 3 men were the aggressors. -Ryley Niemi

@Marilynrules1 @p_terg There was a sign that said " Welcome to my Country" and local Aboriginal George Pontoni gave a personal address. Followed by an exhibition of spear and Boomerang skills. Sounds like a Welcome to Country to me?

@DonMackellar @p_terg In one text, there is reference to smoke being used; as a warning to one group that others might be approaching OR as a request from the approaching group to pass through someone else's land. I can see no reference to a welcome. gutenberg.net.au/ebooks20/20004…
