@JosephineCumbo Congratulations to your son! Both me and my brother did our undergrads at Sheffield and absolutely loved it. I always say picking Sheffield was one of the best decisions I have ever made!

Thank you everyone so much for the tips and support re son's A-Level dilemma. Son was offered an engineering place at Sheffield - a fantastic university and great student City. It has been a mad scramble but I am delighted for him. Onwards.

it goes without saying that JK Rowling’s take on Lolita is both extremely harmful (consider the source) and extremely common. a few years ago back, i made a podcast about why. it’s called ‘Lolita podcast’ and takes a look at how culture took a complex book that’s a litmus test for whether its deeply sick protagonist can convince you he’s telling a love story and not the destruction of Dolores Haze’s life, and took him at his word. it’s about everything from a deeper look at Nabokov’s life and implied experiences with CSA, to interviews with the women who played lolita onscreen and onstage as children, to young women today who have read the book and see it for the horror that it is and want to reclaim dolores, not lolita. it was really tough to make but hope it can help contextulaize why this read of a book that is far more complex than rowling can take on exists. dolores forever 💖 check it out if you like and fuck jk rowling: open.spotify.com/show/4dvc06zTA…

The way I will love a good period drama and be occupied with it for months on end.

@LiamJLiburd @treventoured I did find this very interesting, thank you Tre and Liam! I don’t know a lot about horror, but I have definitely noticed that even as period dramas have become more diverse over the past decade or so, black characters tend to be very metropolitan.

Are there no Black Brit horror filmmakers that can do a UK reply to Get Out? Idea: set on a country estate, the "horror" element is the ghosts of dead enslaved ppl coming back to haunt today's so-called "elite" that owe reparations. RIP butthurt Nigels + Karens. I'm not sorry😂😂

Literature isn’t lovely stuff. It’s unsettling, painful, shapes your morals, shows you the sublime and the foul rag and bone shop of the heart. And it can console and inspire those who get to a certain age and wonder if it was worth spending so much time in the office.

@Hannah_Greig I have a foot in both worlds - I work full time in TV, but am also in the final year of my part time PhD. I really do love working in TV, but for people considering it, I can’t emphasise enough that it is a lifestyle choice - contracts are short, hours long and deadlines tight!

My friend Terrence Woods Jr went missing on the 5th October 2018, whilst filming with a UK production company. It has been almost TWO YEARS since anyone has seen or heard from him. PLEASE RETWEET to raise awareness of his story. It would mean a lot to me and his family.
