Tyre is Lebanon’s fourth-largest city and the main urban center of the country’s south. Before the war, the city proper had roughly 130,000 residents, with several hundred thousand more living across the wider Tyre district.
Much of southern Lebanon has already been emptied by Israeli displacement orders, repeated airstrikes, and months of indiscriminate attacks on critical infrastructure. Tyre itself had absorbed waves of displaced people from border villages before most of the city was ordered to evacuate in the last week.
