Strider's first-inning velo (92.7 mph) shouldn't be the focus. He said he'll pace himself this spring. That's a good thing. The good news is that he's seemingly regained the fastball shape he's been seeking. His induced vert. break (late life) was 18 as compared to 18.4 in 2023.

You aren't imagining it. Players are as a whole moving through the minors to the big leagues faster than before. It's not just a few notable stars. baseballamerica.com/stories/5-reas…

Less than a week to go until the application for the Rich Passan Sports Writing Scholarship closes. We're looking for the best college sports reporters in the country and can't wait to give out the inaugural award along with the National Press Club.
Jeff Passan@JeffPassan

My family and I are thrilled to introduce the Rich Passan Sports Writing Scholarship, which will offer $5,000 annually to a college junior or senior. My father was a journalist for 41 years. He passed along that gift to me. Now it's our turn to share it. pressclubinstitute.org/2025/10/24/int…

Shohei Ohtani ($70 million) and Kyle Tucker ($60 million) are not only the highest AAV's in MLB history, but the two combine (at $130 million) to make more than 10 MLB clubs spent on their entire payrolls last year. The Kansas City Royals missed making this list by $1,500.
