@trenchkench buying oil and gas from Russia at market prices is not "sucking dick". We have to import from somewhere...here are the choices: 1. super overpriced US, on whom we already rely too much in other things 2. Arab states = fill Islamic coffers 3. cheap, reliable Russian supply

@sentinl_grave The alliance makes no sense. China's entire economic push right now is to move up the value chain to replace german/japanese/Korean/italian industry

@CoopTory @FortySacks Why do people like high speed rail? Only montreal has good public transport. You need a car in GTA/Ottawa anyway. Caanda missed 1 trillion dollars in investment from not buukd9ng pipeline sunder Trudeau. Focus on that. Not pointless intercity transport

Conservatives in 1867: We will do whatever it takes to build a railway from coast to coast, through muskegs and mountains to unify this country. Conservatives in 2026: We will fight tooth and nail against building a railway on flat land that would connect ~50% of population.
Scott Robertson@sarobertsonca

Pierre Poilievre on the Toronto–Quebec City High-Speed Rail Network: "Conservatives oppose the $90b Liberal-Alto train ... a future Conservative government will cancel this $90b boondoggle altogether."

@Peter_Nimitz I think even if they voted to leave it requires unanimous ratification from all the first nations without he province which basically makes it impossible

@FistedFoucault And the routes needed for new pipelines are all to the pacific. Their main problem getting takeaway capacity built wouldn't really be able to be fixed by becoming American. Keystone XL is not that important vs potential northern gateway

Independence is impossible while landlocked in such a manner, specifically in that location. Think of the transit costs to ship your oil. Becoming a 51st state is funny, because you're going from having a 1/10th say to 1/51 of one.
Rise Of Alberta@RiseOfAlberta

🚨BREAKING: The 177,000 signature threshold has now been passed, officially clearing the requirement for an Alberta independence referendum on October 19th. This is a historic moment for Alberta and signature collection is still continuing.

Canadians understand Americans through frequent cross-border travel, and watching American movies and tv series. Americans - if they think about Canadians at all - remember Degrassi Junior High.

@eugyppius1 I think the counter is that the Pentagon has been planning war with Iran for 40 years and we have an entire military staff who have spent their career culminating to this moment. And analyzing trumps tweets makes it seem like you think he is directing the war at a minute level

My problem with MAGA and plantrusters on the Iran thing, isn't even over the war so much. I'm not a moralfag ok, I've even written that there's a certain logic to the war happening now. It's that you guys in a mad drive to make Trump into some kind of geopolitical genius deity have just churned out a reprehensible tidal wave of total shit arguments and piss-poor analysis, because apparently you find that preferable to admitting that Trump is wont to say nonsensical things while rambling to the press and nobody in his administration has developed any reasonably coherent, consistent talking points about this war.

This is all so fake. Random internet crazies like me want NATO to go away, literally none of these people do. Too many major interests are bound up in continuing these relationships indefinitely. No soldiers will be withdrawn from Germany, nothing concrete is going to emerge from all of this whining and crying. So you tell me what it is for.

Trump admin incoherence on NATO just grows and grows. The NATO charter does not specify any basing rights, those all emerge from separate bilateral agreements with various nations. If you don't like the terms of the agreements you made, maybe you should seek to revise them.
Department of State@StateDept

🚨 SECRETARY RUBIO: If NATO is just about us defending Europe if they’re attacked, but them denying us basing rights when we need them, then that’s not a very good arrangement. That’s a hard one to stay engaged in and say this is good for the United States.

@FistedFoucault Having low wages is not necessary for europe. Median pensioner income is higher in france than median wage. Is that a good thing? To live in a vampiric society based around retirees and bus drivers?

@xenocosmography They believe in third world revolution. They see the white middle classes of the first world as unfairly using lots of resources to have a good life. Climate change and mass migration are all part of the same desire to liquidate the fordist middle class for being immoral.

Ed Miliband gets relentless bile from the right for his ‘ideological’ commitment to clean, cheap renewable energy - just as Nye Bevan once did for creating the NHS. Yet on March 25 97.7 % of our electricity was from renewables. A revolution is unfolding. observer.co.uk/news/columnist…

@Peter_Nimitz It kind of just functions as a military aristocracy. The IRCG runs everything and even owns important assets in the economy created by the autarkik system their existence forces a need for (car factories, etc). IRCG officers are like knights
