Inheritance tax is iniquitous but it is NOT the first tax to be cutting. The PRIORITY tax to cut is income tax on the working/ middle class. The next priority after that is cutting tax on business. Cutting IHT does nothing for the cost of living/ growing the economy

@HawkwellJames @s8mb @CeeMacBee Yeah. I'm considering Scotland for BtL but just can't bring myself to do it. Stamp duty is about 2 years worth of rent. Rent control. Inability to evict. General hostile tone/environment towards landlords. Feel insane even thinking about it.

Share your favourite charts of 2023. Here are a few of mine. First: Novo Nordisk, makers of semaglutide (aka Wegovy / Ozempic), becomes the largest company in Europe, overtaking the likes of LVMH, Nestle, L'Oreal, ASML, and Hermes.

Sir @Keir_Starmer’s plan to spend £28 billion EXTRA every year is the equivalent of raising the basic rate of income tax from 20% to 25% for everyone in the U.K. Rather than calling this FACT “garbage” - @UKLabour should have the backbone to fully outline the details of where they want to raise taxes for their £28 billion annual extra spending on green things Labour’s £28 billion annual extra spending would also put jobs and the economy at risk of rising inflation again - just when @RishiSunak & @Jeremy_Hunt have started to get inflation falling after the global shocks of the pandemic and Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine We should never forget that EVERY majority Labour Government has left unemployment HIGHER than when they came to office - and their £28 billion tax attack would do it all over again 👇 👇 👇 dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1…

@s8mb @CeeMacBee London and Scotland, total no go areas for new landlords and existing landlords are planning their escape. Hopefully Labour don’t bring the whole of England into that nightmare

Buy-to-let landlords are fleeing the London market. Probably some combination of higher interest rates and the new laws making it harder to get rid of tenants after their contracts expire.

@GBNEWS Increasingly not the case, fortunately. My aunt was in her own home until the last moment thanks to NHS local services. We know 3 other families in the same position. Inheritance Tax will sack the money from grieving families

@GBNEWS The replies to this 😣 Inheritance Tax isn’t paid by the rich, they use legal schemes/processes to avoid paying it. This is an almost exclusively working class tax

@benhabib6 Fully agree. The tax trap between £50k and £60k (40 per cent tax + 2 per cent NI surcharge + 9 per cent graduate loan repayment + child benefit clawback of 20 per cent or more) is the thing most in need to attention.

There were no small boat arrivals over Christmas for the first time since they started in 2018. Last night, our Border Force officers and their French partners worked together to stop a boat launching on the beaches. They've played a crucial role in cutting crossings by 35%.

This will be a paradoxical election in the UK. The people will vote out a government they despise, in order to put in place a government that will double down on the most despised policies.
Tim Montgomerie 🇬🇧@montie

A Labour govt won't have much money to spend and every social and cultural conservative should brace themselves for a leftist-appeasing barrage of changes on liberty, free speech, 'white privilege', trans, Hospice care/ euthanasia etc

@benrileysmith An absolutely stupid idea that would make it even harder for the conservative party to win the next election. A massive tax cut for the richest estates in the country at the time of a cost of living crisis? just how dumb can someone be to think that would be a good idea?

@KEdge23 Im no longer convinced the conservative party isnt the enemy too. I do not trust Sunak. There is now a clear pattern of behaviour. Theres no evidence they will actually deliver on any of their key promises I use to agree on the bigger picture, im afraid that may now be changing

I fear some people would rather cut their nose off to spite their face in regards to voting. People need to see the bigger picture and that better things are coming under the Conservatives next year, including tax cuts, starting with the NI cut in Jan. Labour are the enemy.
