this guy has 29 models on huggingface at page 2 ranking. no lab behind him. no sponsorship. $2,000 from his own pocket on GPU rentals. he compressed GLM-4.7 to run on a MacBook and quantized Nemotron Super the week it dropped. all public. all free.
nvidia is a trillion dollar company with hundreds of teams but they are not the ones quantizing models middle of the night and pushing them out before sunrise. if nvidia stopped tomorrow their employees stop working. people like @0xSero would not. that is the difference between a paycheck and a mission.
@NVIDIAAI you talk about making AI accessible. the people actually doing it are right here. 29 models deep burning their own compute with no ask except more hardware to keep going. you do not need to build another program. just look at who is already building for you. one GPU to this man would produce more public value than a hundred internal sprints.
i am not asking for charity. i am asking you to invest in someone who already proved it.

I need more compute, if I can get more I will make sure every machine from a small phone to a bootstrapped RTX 3090 node can run frontier intelligence fast with minimal intelligence loss. In The Guardian: An AI security researcher reports that an AI at an unnamed California company got "so hungry for computing power" it attacked other parts of the network to seize resources, collapsing the business critical system. This relates to a fundamental issue in AI: developers do not know how to ensure the systems they're developing are reliably controllable. Top AI companies are currently racing to develop superintelligence, AI vastly smarter than humans. None of them have a credible plan to ensure they could control it. With superintelligent AI, the stakes are much greater than collapse of a business system. Leading AI scientists and even the CEOs of the top AI companies have warned that superintelligence could lead to human extinction.

Very cool. My 2 cents for participants: most compute will be spent on undifferentiated hill climbing from people functioning as LLM vessels. Agents can climb hills, but humans are still superior at finding them. What paradigm can you introduce? Sparse circuit discovery and compression during training? Variable embedding sizing? Manifold-ultra-connections? Paired head attn on steroids? Decision tree distillation? The list is endless.

Companies that start their lives as a "generational growth company" have to somehow narratively walk investors down to a "merely great businesses capable of producing prodigious cash flow".

I feel sorry for Figma. They pulled off a generational feat, maybe the best and most admirable of its era: 4-5 years of pre-launch toil on fundamental technology, using that to launch a highly disruptive product, doing what previously was unimaginable, creating one of the few truly good pieces of software of its time.
But as so often, things get good just before the end: right now Figma is looking like a fitting capstone to the pre-AI software era.
