@CockertonMark used to get it regularly.While it’s bad, freeze a small bottle of water, put it in a sock & roll foot over it. I prefer Vionic shoes & insoles to the others.Once got the injection but the long term solution for me is to always stretch toes up before getting up and standing.

Plantar fasciitis - which sounds like something you’d catch from Nigel Farage’s gardener - is damn painful. Any tips for alleviating it besides insoles and a foot massage roller?

@Doug_Lemov Rebus is a TV detective series but there’s a book called Rebus Scotland - a personal journey. It’s a tour of places which impacted the stories and a good read. Also for anyone going anywhere different, I think The Culture Map is a good read.

Tweeps: Daughter is studying in Scotland next semester. I need xmas book ideas for her- ideally something a bit like Kate Fox’s “Watching the English”- funny but useful guide to culture & norms of daily life. If not that then just really funny. Thoughts?

Insomnia! I've hesitated over going there, but ARGH. Women of a certain age? I've always counted the ability to sleep as one of my gifts, so its sudden arrival is profoundly unwelcome (distressing), not least for the hordes of invisible scorpions having parties on my skin...

Thousands of you will have heard me talk of the work of Colwyn Trevarthen, whose research radically changed the way we understand babies' communicatory capacities. Sad news has arrived that he died yesterday, peacefully in his sleep. Here he is 2015, at a Child's Curriculum mtg.

@debrakidd I did for about a week …. more worrying was my eyesight was awful for about 48 hours! I’ve had various surgery but this was only once.

@WillowNBirch I’ve had it 3 times - once it was so bad I had the injection - 1 minute of absolute agony but better than that feeling daily.

For those who have flown with teenagers with anxiety, what over the counter medication have you found useful to support? I’ve seen something called rescue remedy which is a liquid you can drop into a hankie but am unsure if can take that on a plane?? The bottle is less than 100ml
