Another good survey of research on upzoning.
The largest improvements occur where demand for housing is strong.
Effects grow over time.
Reforms are ineffective when they are small, coupled with offsetting restrictions, or in areas with weak demand.

President Abbott is emblematic of the dwindling Liberal base: a 68yo white man already flirting with the idea of One Nation.
Sure, the Libs may now hold onto a few more of the Abbotts of the world. But they'd be better off putting them all out to pasture.

@xRenfieldx @AngusTaylorMP I wouldn’t call it overtaxing — it seems very reasonable to me. Tim Wilson explains it well.

English

@Interlime @AngusTaylorMP Overtaxing all investment vehicles is a bigger barrier to home ownership for young people. Do you feel like you could make alot of money before the 30%-47% ctg tax on stock, crypto and other assets.. newzealands is 0%.

We are putting forward changes to Labor’s Toxic Taxes Bill.
1. We oppose Labor’s toxic taxes on savings, housing, farmers and small business.
2. We support personal income tax relief, but Labor should not be packaging tax cuts with new toxic taxes.
3. We will force a vote on our Tax Back Guarantee, delivering bigger and better tax cuts for Australians, year after year.
The Albanese Government now has a simple choice: back bigger and better personal income tax cuts or back in its broken promises and toxic taxes.

@KevinHoganMP To be fair, I did think Taylor could have won if you had switched to him before the last election. But now I’d be amazed if he turns out to be your saviour.

How good would that look with: Taylor wants to get the nation back on track. You know I’m right. Sure, he needs some spit and polish, but with a good team, he could be the next PM.
English

@KevinHoganMP No, they won the last election because you guys sucked and Dutton couldn’t convince Australians he would do a better job. On the bright side, the only person who could possibly be worse than Dutton is Taylor. So good luck with that.

I joined Ch7 Sunrise this morning to discuss the growing risk of negative equity, falling clearance rates and what it means for buyers and homeowners.

@australian This explanation from the Shadow Treasurer is very informative. No wonder he’s considered one of the Liberal Party’s most talented politicians.

The Albanese government’s proposed CGT changes have left Australian investors worse off than peers, some of which charge zero CGT. Read more: bit.ly/3QdqHV1

For years, first home buyers were told to wait their turn. Now we're seeing more of them beating investors at auction.
That's a welcome shift for Australians trying to get a foot in the door.

New ABS data shows building approvals up 10.2% in April compared to a year ago.
16,700 homes were approved in April 2026, up from 15,200 in April 2025 and 13,600 in April 2024.
This is particularly encouraging, as it provides our first look at housing activity since the start of the Middle East conflict.
We’ve made significant progress in homebuilding – with approvals, commencements, and completions all higher than when the Albanese Government was elected. The Middle East conflict will continue to put pressure on construction costs, but we’re maintaining momentum, despite the challenging conditions.

@PMalinauskasMP How much stamp duty did the young couple pay? And how much did Carmel walk away with in tax-free capital gains?

Workers who lose their jobs should be free to get back on their feet, not forced to sit on the sidelines.
This case shows how non-compete clauses can hurt workers, choke competition and slow productivity.
From 1 January 2027, Labor will ban non-competes for workers earning below $183,000, covering 9 in 10 workers. afr.com/technology/wis… #auspol #ausecon

@PaulineHansonOz Hey @ajamesbragg, does One Nation have more old men and fewer women than your party? I can’t decide — their leader is a woman.

Two total incompetent no-hopers, completely out of their depth, rank amateurs with no real world experience that don‘t have a clue what they are doing.
Every policy they implement only makes the problems worse.
Even the RBA is admitting Labor’s budget will only push up rents and see less homes built.
