Say Goodbye to Tight QLs! I used to think the only way to get my QL to relax was by stretching or using a lacrosse ball. But the real issue isn’t tightness—it’s how you’re carrying your weight. The QL has two big functions: arching the back and sidebending. If your weight shifts forward or you favor one side when moving, this muscle can get tight. Stretching alone doesn’t fix this—you need to address the underlying cause. Here’s the fix: 1️⃣ Work on weight shifting: Start lying on your back with your knees apart, arms reaching toward the ceiling on an angle, palms up. Keep your back flat (without forcing it), and straighten your legs if needed. Slowly breathe in, exhale deeply to engage your abs, and hold for 3 sets of 60 seconds. 2️⃣ Side plank variations: Reach your top arm and leg in opposite directions to create length. Breathe deeply while pushing with the down arm and knee for 3 sets of 60 seconds. 3️⃣ Split squats: Build the strength to keep your QLs relaxed when standing. Focus on not hiking the hip as you lower. If needed, elevate the front leg and hold a weight out in front. Do slow reps (3 count down, 3 count up) for 3 sets of 8.
