The main issue is that some states like red states actually like building housing and predominantly blue states DO NOT.
However at the federal level there has been little means of fixing this.

Populists and radicals will destroy the economy with insane spending, and the country's budget will simply be driven into deficit, and deficit is the main enemy of the economy and prosperity. Also, let's not forget that even a right-wing populist is no better economically than a left-wing populist, because both will fanatically screw up taxes on those they hate, even if it ultimately hurts ordinary people. The economy must work for people's prosperity through the neoliberalism of the 80s and 90s, because this model brought the West to a level of prosperity after decades of stagflation, and under Clinton, a budget surplus was achieved, and therefore we need to return to real fiscal responsibility
