When I put my farmer hat on, I’m cutting my P&K fertilizer rates 30-100% this fall. Probably skipping the marginal rented acres entirely. The ag retailer I work for is going to go through some things over the next year. 😰

@PetersenFarms I am skeptical however , she mentioned the nitrous oxide released from essentially tillage, how is this always glossed over and put firmly on animal agriculture’s shoulders. In the current model producers would still grow these crops as long as there is a buyer to buy them 🤷

A detailed write up on the negatives of CAFOs as it sits today. Do livestock emit more or less greenhouse gas when raised outside of a CAFO system? I agree where improvements can be made for pollution prevention, but I’m struggling to see where no CAFOs can be come a reality.

@KenSchaus @WeCover_Steel Is there bunk along the outside also? Feed alley on both sides? I’m impressed by how you feed cattle in the different types of buildings you have. Always so clean too. The biggest issue we deal with in WI is humidity pretty much year round. Builders don’t try to compensate for it

@mikestiemsma Sounds like rage issues. Let us all share the land in a way of loving and understanding. Where you see the deer as the intruder perhaps they see you as the lost interloper not coming out to munch on sticks in the winter months. Perhaps they don’t fear you, they pity you. Perhaps

In 2022 after a breeding wreck, I approached the bank that had my operating note with a set of numbers (stress tested) and a request to float me another year. They turned me down. Meanwhile some guy in Kentucky (or OK or TX or where TF) took RaboBank for millions??

@patton_devin I would certainly consider that. Everyone in Wi is spring calving. I have to reach out of state to where either herds are bigger and have different calving windows or intentionally fall calve. I should have started two years ago with heifers but we weren’t ready then.

@JonProchnow Have you considered buying peoples late bred spring calvers? Guys that preg and sell cows that are calving in June or something. May not breed up for snow calving but do well as fall calvers, and slide them back to match yours.
