American entrepreneur Keonne Rodriguez built a successful Bitcoin wallet app called @SamouraiWallet. He’s now being sent to prison for it. In a few weeks, Keonne will begin his 5-year sentence behind bars, unless the Bitcoin community can save him by pressuring the US Administration to offer a pardon. When I heard about this story, it sounded like fake news, so I went straight to the source. In this exclusive interview, @Keonne is descriptive, logical, and vulnerable. His story is heartbreaking and terrifying. By the end, it's evident he's sitting directly in the crossfire between freedom tech and surveillance states. This is a critical moment in history—a moment for the Bitcoin community to stand up. Just as @RealRossU was pardoned, @Keonne must be forgiven, too. We cannot allow one of our own fellow Bitcoiners to spend time in jail for building a legitimate product that protects our Bitcoin and strengthens the network. We must unify to ensure @Keonne is freed. Alone, he doesn’t stand a chance. But with support from faithful Bitcoiners, we can bring awareness to his cause. Knowledge is power. Watch the interview and vocalize your support for @Keonne in the comments. Show Summary: In this gripping conversation, Keonne shares his harrowing experience of building Samourai Wallet, a non-custodial Bitcoin wallet focused on user privacy, and the subsequent FBI raid that led to his arrest. He discusses the legal challenges he faced, including conspiracy charges and the pressure to plead guilty, despite his innocence. The conversation highlights the broader implications of privacy in the cryptocurrency space and the political motivations behind his prosecution. Keonne’s story serves as a cautionary tale about the intersection of technology, law, and personal freedom. It is a moment in Bitcoin’s history that could define how we protect our freedom in the digital age. Key Takeaways: - Samourai Wallet prioritizes user privacy and control over funds. - The FBI raid was a shocking and aggressive response to a tech startup. - Keonne faced serious charges without any prior criminal history. - The legal system pressured him into a plea deal despite his innocence. - Public statements on social media were used against him in court. - The indictment was based on misinterpretations of his actions and intent. - Keonne’s case highlights the challenges of privacy in the cryptocurrency space. - The financial burden of legal fees was overwhelming for Keonne and his family. - Home confinement significantly impacted Keonne’s quality of life. - The case raises important questions about free speech and innovation in technology. I attended the first hearing for the #Samourai Wallet case earlier today on behalf of @BitcoinMagazine and briefly spoke with one of the defendants, Keonne Rodriguez, after the hearing. Here's a recap of what I learned:

🚀Announcing the Peer-to-Peer Rights Fund The mission? Safeguard the decentralized, peer-to-peer integrity of the Bitcoin ecosystem by defending non-custodial tools and their developers from regulatory overreach. Learn more & make a tax-deductible donation here: p2prights.org 🛡️ The fund protects innovation, privacy, and user autonomy through strategic litigation and advocacy. By supporting pivotal legal cases and providing essential regulatory guidance, it aims to establish a fair legal framework for Bitcoin’s open-source community. 🔍 Why Peer-to-Peer Transactions Matter: Bitcoin succeeded where others failed because it's truly peer-to-peer. It’s decentralized, open-source, and immune to greed, corruption, and overregulation. Developers worldwide have built amazing non-custodial tools on this foundation... 🔐 Multi-signature wallets enhance security by requiring multiple keys, reducing theft risks. ⚡️ Lightning Service Providers help users in developing countries with low-cost daily transactions and remittances. 🕵️‍♂️ Coinjoin coordinators offer privacy for users like journalists and activists, protecting them in repressive regimes. 🚨 However, peer-to-peer transactions are under assault. Recent legal actions indicate a troubling shift in regulatory perspective, putting the non-custodial ecosystem at risk. 🚨 The government’s new stance treats developers of non-custodial tools as financial institutions, a misunderstanding of the technology. Users, not developers, engage in financial activities. 🚨 The broad interpretation of the Bank Secrecy Act could extend to hardware wallet developers, transaction nodes, miners, and more. If courts set unfavorable precedents, the implications are dire. To address these challenges, the P2P Rights Fund will: 🔸 Provide resources to subsidize defense counsel and sponsor amicus briefs in pivotal cases. 🔸 Support and finance affirmative impact litigation to secure crucial legal precedents. 🔸 Offer free or subsidized regulatory advice to developers of non-custodial Bitcoin tools. 🚀 Project 1: U.S. v. Rodriguez & Hill (Samourai Wallet) The fund's first project is defending Keonne Rodriguez and William Lonergan Hill, founders of @SamouraiWallet ⚖️ Rodriguez and Hill face charges of conspiracy to commit money laundering and operating an unlicensed money services business. The prosecution's attempt to classify Samourai's non-custodial coinjoin tool as a money service business risks setting a damaging precedent that could impact the entire Bitcoin ecosystem. ⚖️ By defending this case, the fund aims to ensure the court understands the technology and legal principles at stake, and seek a favorable result establishing that non-custodial privacy tools cannot be regulated under the Bank Secrecy Act. ⚖️ The outcome of this case will significantly impact the future of non-custodial Bitcoin tools and the broader decentralized finance landscape. The fund's involvement underscores its commitment to safeguarding the principles of decentralization, user autonomy, and privacy, ensuring that innovation within the Bitcoin ecosystem can flourish under a fair and just legal framework.

I’ve tried to print a CoinJoin in multiple layers and colors in my Zokai press, but the more inputs & outputs are added, the more confusing it gets. I like it best with one layer - less is more. "One out of five“

VLAD HOSTS THE BEST PODCAST IN BITCOIN
Today, Wasabi 1.0 created its smallest CoinJoin in years: 4 inputs, 4 outputs. KYCP, a blockchain analysis tool which takes data from Samourai’s OXT, gave it a better privacy score than any other large Wasabi CoinJoin. It probably thought it was a Samourai CJ 😂 This is why they refuse to open source the code for OXT: it’s a rigged tool that’s programmed to make Samourai Whirlpool CoinJoins look more private.
