I'm not sure I follow your reasoning. A few weeks ago I was very angry at CNI (somewhat lessened now) because I knew they were slow-rolling fixes for serious issues. How we got to the point there were serious issues is a separate question. Fixing serious issues quickly is the right move.

If you're not following this closely or aren't familiar with soft forks, I want to point out a few things.
1. Soft forks NARROW what is allowed on the network, making consensus more restrictive
2. At the moment any on-chain behavior emerges that is gated on being disallowed by the soft fork, the network will split. Presumably, you will want to be on the side recognized by exchanges, Chia Cloud Wallet, and the ecosystem at large.
3. No one wants to make a soft fork patch because they're a pain in the ass. If Chia is doing it, it REALLY needs to happen.
4. Upgrade yesterday, or today at least
