To everyone who has been out knocking on doors, delivering leaflets, and proudly championing our message—thank you. Over the past month, I’ve travelled the length and breadth of the country, visiting every community casting their vote today. At every stop, I’ve seen the very best of our party—and the very best of our country. We are a remarkable party: united by purpose, driven by service, and open to all—regardless of age or background—who want to improve their towns and communities. Not only have you represented our party—you’ve represented the true spirit of public service. And for that, I thank you.

@jk_rowling The sad truth is I receive more daily hate and harassment from you than any one in all my life. Bar being sexually assaulted by a man in what should have been a safe space , your sad obsession about how I go to toilet is about the lowest anyone can go.

'Trans women' are male. If they weren't male they wouldn't be 'trans'. Prejudice is an irrational fear or dislike. It is entirely rational to state that a man is a man. Only totalitarians and religious zealots insist that others parrot falsehoods on pain of retribution.

Today is #EqualPayDay, and the construction industry has a number of other factors to contend with, according to this report, that highlights issues that make the construction industry the least inclusive for women. @ICE_engineers pbctoday.co.uk/news/hr-skills…

“Too often women have to choose between their careers and caring responsibilities, and face sexual harassment and gender-based discrimination at work.” Secretary of State, @bphillipsonMP, on why #EqualPayDay matters ⬇️

Today we’re celebrating the fantastic work of UK construction mental health charity @MatesInMind 🙌 Their teams are raising awareness and addressing the stigma of poor mental health in construction, while promoting and leading on the development of positive mental wellbeing within the workplace. Mates in Mind aims to provide clear information to employers about the available support and guidance on mental health and wellbeing, and how they can address this within their organisations. The charity is run by an excellent team and has a number of useful free-to-access resources and links to support on its website at matesinmind.org Of particular note is its “BeAMate” UK SMS text support service. To use the service, simply text “BeAMate” to 85258 in the UK and trained volunteers will help with issues including anxiety, stress, loneliness or depression. They are available 24/7. Mates in Mind is one of five leading construction mental health charities worldwide that’s partnering with and supported by the #GetConstructionTalking campaign. We’re highlighting the amazing work of each charity in turn as we countdown to World Mental Health Day and our Construction Mental Health Summit in London on October 10. The other charities are The Construction Industry Alliance for Suicide Prevention (US), MATES in Construction (ANZ), Lighthouse (UK and Ireland) and Construction Sport (UK).

Tackling construction’s mental health crisis starts with each of us — whether you’ve personally struggled with your own mental health or not. We need YOU to take the first step and start looking out for your work mates and colleagues across the industry everyday. You know them better than anyone and are best-placed to spot the signs and offer initial support. It’s simple 👇 1️⃣ Ask them how they’re doing if you sense they’re not right. Sometimes it’s useful to ask twice. 2️⃣ Be there and listen. You don’t have to diagnose an issue or try to fix things. 3️⃣ Point them to support from one of the construction industry’s fantastic mental health charities, if you feel they need it. Remember, sometimes there aren’t any signs that people are struggling. That’s why generally raising awareness of support resources across your teams and creating a culture where people feel able to talk about mental health and reach out to each other is so important. Learn how to take the first steps in our free toolkit on our website. There you can also find support and make any size of investment to help construction’s charities 👉 getconstructiontalking.org #GetConstructionTalking #construction #mentalhealth

This was such a powerful moment. Talking about your mental health isn’t weak, it’s one of the strongest and bravest things you can do ✊️ @johnpaulconst’s Ray Blewitt and @TheB1M’s @Fred_Mills opened-up about their mental health journeys and how they manage in this honest and powerful talk with @procoretech’s @alohasasha to a packed audience on the main stage at Digital Construction Week. Around the world, construction struggles with poor mental health more than any other sector. Tackling the issue means cultural change, breaking the stigma and normalising talking about it — from leadership down. You can learn more about what you and organisation can do to help, access our free toolkit, find links to support, free resources and make a donation to construction’s mental health charities over at 👉 getconstructiontalking.org #GetConstructionTalking #DCW2024
