48 team cup was meant to account for the further globalization of football and award extra spots to populous continents to reduce European bias Europe only got 3 new spots. Italy *still* flamed out to nations like Norway and Bosnia it should be beating!

Thoughts on Italy failing to qualify: 1) 48 team World Cup was supposed to prevent this. Already too many minnows at this tournament. Even a mediocre Italy would have made it better 2) Toronto is a loser here. Italian community storyline, gone. Significant economic impact. 1/2

@broderly Their only recorded win against Croatia is apparently during the genocidal puppet state NDH's time in WW2 (which apparently is kept in FIFA records despite modern day Croatia constitutionally not being the same state or tied to it in any legal way)
