Millenic Alli could be the real surprise name to come into contention for March! 🇮🇪 Everyone remembers how strong he finished the 24/25 season, almost dragging Luton to safety with the goals he scored, but the first half of this campaign in League One didn’t quite go to plan. Since his January move to Portsmouth though, he’s been a revelation. Outstanding again today in their win over high-flying Millwall - a brilliant assist, electric down the left, constant menace 1v1 and a relentless work rate. He looked top drawer from start to finish. If this form continues into March, it’s hard not to think he’ll at least be in the conversation. With his pace, power and counter-attacking threat, he fits exactly what Irish managers tend to look for in a wide option, especially in a system that often uses a front two and needs direct runners off it. There’s also a genuine opening. Mikey Johnston has been in and out at West Brom, Festy Ebosele is suspended for the first game, and Chiedozie Ogbene hasn’t been getting minutes recently at Sheffield United. Alli, right now, is arguably the most in-form Irish winger available. You’d imagine Heimir Hallgrímsson won’t want to make too many changes to the core group, but these things can develop quickly and if Alli keeps producing performances like this between now and the squad announcement, he could absolutely force his way into the picture.

@betweenstripes Think we have a very talented squad but ultimately would be surprised to see daly being a success, after one game can already see the style of play is just hoof it 90 yards and hope podge Lonergan or Noonan produce individual brilliance

@lukkin_ahh @LewisBowden_ We havent always had CL football yet we were able to sign players. We can offer assurances, our recent history shows that. We can easily attract good players, they dont have to be from prem. If it means stablizing the squad and building to be one season out then its worth it

I can’t be the only Newcastle fan who has no problem with this. This guy is unbelievably experienced, as is Ross Wilson. I’m okay with risking the remainder of this season for a stronger window in the summer. Panic buying only digs the whole deeper. Bit of patience and we will benefit long term.
