The chief operating officer of Miami’s FIFA World Cup host committee has warned that it may be forced to cancel its official fan festival this summer unless it receives funding from the United States federal government within the next 30 days. During a House Homeland Security Committee hearing on Tuesday, Joseph Mabin, the deputy chief of Kansas City Missouri Police also warned that Kansas City’s “drop-dead date” is “immediate”, with host cities across the country awaiting the release of a combined $625 million in funding to assist security and preparations for the World Cup. The host cities secured the funding within President Trump’s domestic policy bill last summer, which he coined as the “One, Big, Beautiful Bill”. Yet the funding is still to be administered via the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the agency which has been tasked with processing the grant scheme. I’m so happy to see Mbappe saying these things and taking such a hard stance. And refusing to play the media game of absolving the racist and putting the blame on the reaction.
Managing Madrid@managingmadrid

Mbappe saying all the right things in the mixed zone. "I asked Vini what he wanted to do. Whatever he wants to do, we'll do it as a team. We'll never leave Vini alone. We've supported our player. If something like that happens to you, how would you feel? "Did Prestianni apologize? Did you see his face? An apology? We're not stupid, there are things that... I'm not saying I'm perfect, but I don't let that kind of thing slide. This player is young, how can you say these things on a football pitch? Now we have to see what happens. We were leaving, it was the team's decision, I don't know what happened, and then we came back. We focused on what we're doing, but today the important thing isn't the match, there's something more important than the match." "We have to set an example for all the children who look up to us; there are things we can't accept. We shouldn't generalize. I have Portuguese friends, they treat me very well, but when someone behaves like that, it has to be said. People don't know what happened, and that's why they booed us. I have nothing against Benfica, the club, or its coach, who for me is one of the best, and the club is the best in Portugal and one of the best in history. But this kid doesn't deserve to play in the Champions League anymore. We'll see what happens; let's leave it to UEFA, who always try to do something. Now they have a serious case, and I hope they do something."

#RestInPower to Rev. Jesse Jackson. Today, we honor a giant whose voice, courage, and love for our people shaped generations. Reverend Jesse Jackson was not only a civil rights icon—he was family to the NAACP. His legacy sits at the heart of our work and at the center of this nation’s fight for justice. We carry his light forward. naacp.org/articles/naacp…
