@kathleen_beeson @harvardmed This applies to PhD students too-- especially for fellowships outside the university. Other students and myself have had to fight to get tuition, fees, and insurance covered, as well as deal with lower pay, while on external fellowships that ultimately benefit our dept and uni.

Accepting a fellowship should not punish the trainee! Yet @harvardmed changes the status of postdocs, from “salary” to “stipend” when a postdoc becomes a fellow, resulting in a net loss of ~$3k/yr in compensation due to:
