There's Democratic momentum across the country and Texas has a once in a lifetime opportunity to make huge gains and put us back on track. But we know our State Party is not the strategic partner it could be. Right now, Texas has a chance to change the script, if we choose how we want to lead. I have never backed down from a fight. Now, I'm bringing my passion for representative democracy and my professional experience to the race for the Texas Democratic Party Chair. I’m a native Texan who grew up in Buda, where my grandmother, Helen Alcala, opened the first Mexican (and first Hispanic woman-owned) restaurant in the history of my hometown. I’m a single mom, a dog mom, a runner, and a sci-fi nerd. I’m also a 15 year veteran of professional democratic politics. I have worked on races from local government to state legislature to congress and statewide around the country. I’m running for Texas Democratic Party Chair because I know how to win. Texas Democrats have an historic opportunity this year, and the state party should play a vital role in our democracy. Thanks to decades of hard work by Democrats across this state and thanks to the national backlash against Trump’s gas prices, the war in Iran, and the Epstein cover up; we have a chance to win statewide in 2026. But we’ll never send Gina Hinojosa to the Governor’s mansion; we’ll never flip more congressional or the state legislative seats; and we’ll never send James Talarico to the US Senate if we don’t modernize and professionalize the TDP and restore the TDP as a trusted partner. We cannot miss this opportunity. Join us. moniquealcala.com

Republicans are nervous because their values don’t align with what working families need right now. Carpetbagger Jorge Borrego fights for private schools and protects insurance companies over working people. It’s time #HD118 is represented by someone from here, for the people.

I want to emphasize: Never forget to acknowledge the Black women who were pivotal in our victory in Virginia—@SenLouiseLucas, the mastermind behind 10-1, and @KDongo, who led this campaign with distinction!

From Virginia, to California, what happened across the country started right here in Texas. I’m proud of my colleagues who stood up for Democracy. Help support our Dem members, and send them back to the #txlege! Donate to @TexasHDCC today! secure.actblue.com/donate/txhdcc-…

Republicans: [unsavory tactics] Media: Gosh, that’s some maneuvering. Democrats: [punch back] Media: We need to ask ourselves if this is the sign of a healthy democracy.
