I agree with Zack Polanski on this - 100%. Hard to understand why it’s not been done already. Years of siege and of civilian murders, the last two years outright war on a civilian population, mass starvation, openly declared intent to Ethnically Cleanse, preliminary findings of Genocide, destruction of 90% of all buildings in Gaza, targeting of hospitals and aid workers - the rap sheet for this disgusting Israeli regime is very long indeed. Now we add that the extension of their anti civilian doctrine - in Lebanon. Already they’ve killed more civilians there than Hamas did on Oct 7th - an atrocity the West rightly railed against. Consistency in the application or morals and of international law - demand we cut trade, military and cultural ties. Now.

Israel’s “right to exist” is now being asserted at the expense of everyone else’s right to live. Look at #Lebanon. Over a million people driven from their homes. Hundreds of thousands of children among them. Towns levelled. Villages erased. Infrastructure smashed to pieces. Civilians buried under rubble. This isn’t defence. It’s devastation. You don’t secure peace by turning whole regions into ruins. You don’t claim moral authority while entire populations are displaced and shattered. There is no justification for collective punishment on this scale. Call it plainly. This is the destruction of a country and the people paying the price are the ones with no power to stop it.

Israel’s Op. Eternal Darkness in Lebanon reminds me of filming in a Beirut hospital during the Israeli invasion of 1982. The doctors had to concentrate on the most life-threatening injuries, which were mostly internal. We filmed in the corridor outside the operating theatre. Each new stretcher paused so a line of young boys could grab the biggest chunks of shrapnel sticking out of the patients and yank them out under the direction of a nurse. The groaning of the victims as the shrapnel came out was something I can’t forget. Four decades on, similar things are happening yet again.

The Israeli Defense Forces have issued an evacuation order for Beirut’s Jnah area, which includes two major referral hospitals; the Rafik Hariri University Hospital and Al Zahraa Hospital. At this time, no alternative medical facilities are available to receive approximately 450 patients from the two hospitals (including 40 patients in the ICU), rendering their evacuation operationally unfeasible. Both facilities are operating at full capacity, including treating the injured from the strikes of 8 April. This zone also encompasses the @mophleb complex, and hosts five shelters accommodating more than 5000 people. I urge Israel to reverse this order and ensure the protection of all health facilities, health workers, patients and civilians.
