Please keep my name away mate as I’m still serving. My name is a fake name but some people know of my fake name on here.
Following the brave comments from others I want to highlight what happened to me. I (male) joined 2 Mercian in 2011 (17 years old), as an ‘initiation’ ceremony I was made to drink and party with the guys. I had no issue with this, however as the unit just got back from Afghan I was beaten almost daily for only being the new guy. However going back to ‘the night’ I was very drunk and members of C company 2 Mercian took it upon themselves to force objects and parts of their own body into me, on frequent occasions I was visited where sometimes I would climb out of my window and sleep in the bushes outside. I won’t go too heavy into it as it’s still something I am trying to come to terms with.
I reported everything after another new soldier under 18 come to me asking for help. We both went to the chain of command and I ended up getting the sugar kicked out of me daily for ‘going against the unit’. I went to the RMP however everything got brushed aside and I was told that if I wasn’t drunk it wouldn’t have happened.
I have been in some serious dark places since because of this. I have never been able to sleep right because of the fear of my door getting booted in at stupid hours by drunk men.
The 7 guys that did this got away with everything and I never even got so much of a sorry. The other soldier it happened to ended up killing himself in 2013. The Mercian regiment didn’t even acknowledge his funeral.
I ask that anyone else who suffered anything close to this was to come forward.
Alfie, thank you for support us all.
