If we had more time, Ss can research the food chain that should be present in the yard but is missing due to constant mowing (thus increasing chances of parasites preying on humans eg ticks)

Gr4 ss coding microbits to be used as Tally Counters in our schoolyard field survey, by modifying Step Counter tutorial coding! Ss were so engaged and wanted to know what was every single thing they found in their hula hoops 😆 #TDSBSummerSchool2023 @TDSB_North_A @microbit_edu

@microbit_edu @TDSB_North_A They surveyed 2 corners of the yard, one already mowed (unsurprisingly didn't have lots of obvious diversity) & one still untouched. Some common ones were dandelions, daisies, ants, & a stray bumblebee. We had to look up others like white/red clovers, buttercups, and honeybees!

FYI this is what it looks like inside. The hardest part is laying down the copper tape cause it was soooo sticky, and can tear easily!

Coding Lions representing @ASPS_TDSB for their first official @CANFIRST competition! @firstlegoleague Innovation Presentation went well and Robot competition points kept going up the 5 rounds as the team continued to develop and improve the code.

Student: Is this the book our teacher read to the class last year? Me: Yes. Student: Can I buy it? Me: That's not how the library works. Go buy a copy from the bookstore. Student: But that's not the same book! YOU can buy another copy for the school 🙃 @kellyyanghk @oslacouncil

We have to start with expectations when at the @ASPS_TDSB library... doesn't mean we can't have fun! First 2 sessions included an escape room (w/ prizes!!), creating our own bookmarks (to be laminated!!), @microbit_edu rock paper scissors, and plickers @LC3_TDSB

Wonderful FTF PD @UofTEngOutreach!! Refresher for coding in curriculum, great tips for new science curriculum plus resources, and a chance to be hands-on with Dash. They didn't forget the free food and a free book 🤩 Thank you for understanding the hearts of teachers 🤣

Also did coding with ScratchJr! I only taught the basics of coding and how to use the app on an ipad, but Ss went above and beyond, I even learned from them 😆 They were so eager to share their work! @scratch

Ending w/ hoop gliding competition! Is it how they threw? Would wings help or hinder? Ss built, tested and retested gliders. Shoutout to @torontolibrary for dropping by to tell our Ss about summer programs at the Morningside branch, ❤️ libraries (teacher-librarian here 😆)

Also had a great discussion about cost of food in cities VS up north. Ss were very engaged when making their own grocery store flyers, and taking turns being cashiers and customers!

Wk3 of #TDSBSummer2022 at St Margaret's! Ss were busy bees last week! Had leftover beanbag filler so I got some nitrile gloves for 2/3s to make stress balls (stress gloves????) If it's not messy, it's not fun 😆 @TDSB_ConEd

Wk2 of summer school @ St Margaret's! 2/3s read 'No More Plastic', and learned about Pacific Garbage Patch. Inspired by the Envirobot (robotic eel that surveys water pollution), Ss used invent a robot (based on a swimming animal) that can help people! #TDSBSummer2022 @TDSB_ConEd
