@bryan_johnson @DavidSHolz Fascinating angle 👀 once automation smooths out individual variance, most “systems” start to look like cellular automata rules + states evolving forward. The open question: how much complexity is really compressible?

I wonder how many total systems there are to run in the world and if a single GPU, once a given system has been automated, could run it. If compared to cellular automata, I wonder how many societal systems are really running once larger scale automation smooths out a lot individual variance.

it's a good time to remind everyone that even when you can run a human-level intelligence on a single GPU, we still only make around 5 million GPUs a year and there are 8 billion humans on Earth. with that efficiency / productivity curve it would take 1600 years to catch up. obviously production will increase and efficiency will increase but this 1000x factor is a significant "intelligence mass differential" which means that as the world builds new systems of intelligence they will necessarily and smoothly interweave and balance with existing civilizations / economies / supply chains. it may even turn out that increasing the total sum intelligence of humanity (via tools, education, medicine) may let us outrun the growth of AI for a unexpectedly long time (just because of our giant intelligence pool mass and the economic incentives in improving it + vast myriad of ways of doing so)
