Congress must reopen the government, extend ACA premium tax credits, and restore benefits families depend on. This shutdown didn’t have to happen—but lawmakers can still choose people over politics. clasp.org/press-room/pre…

The priorities are clear: If the shutdown drags into November, key programs like #SNAP, #WIC, and #HeadStart will lose funding—jeopardizing food access for **42 MILLION* people & early learning for *65,000* families.

Nearly a month into the government shutdown, millions of families are paying the price for deliberate policy choices by the Trump Administration and Congress. This is a 🚨manufactured🚨 crisis that’s putting jobs, food, and care at risk.

SNAP helps over 42 million people put food on the table—but its future is under threat. The House budget proposes slashing $230B, the largest cut in SNAP’s history. This isn't reform—it's a rollback that would deepen poverty and hunger nationwide.

Lawmakers temporarily expanded the #EITC available to workers without dependent children in 2021, and the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities estimates that if the EITC expansions were still in place, about 14 million workers would benefit in tax year 2024.

Excluding younger workers from the EITC is detrimental, because younger workers (ages 18-24) are likelier to face poverty when compared to other age groups and are likelier to start their careers in jobs that pay lower wages and may have less savings built up due to their age.

Today is #EITC Awareness Day, and this year also marks the 50th anniversary of the EITC. This tax credit reaches low- and moderate-income taxpayers, but it largely leaves out workers without dependent kids. Learn more in our new @CLASP_DC fact sheet: clasp.org/publications/f…

Fear of deportation casts a cloud of uncertainty, affecting immigrant families’ ability to live their lives. This phenomenon commonly known as the “chilling effect,” causes families to avoid seeking out basic necessities, from medical care to social services.

The Birthright Citizenship of 2024 Act introduced today is another example of a hateful, xenophobic bill aimed at undermining the well-being of children.

Good news: The stopgap funding bill will ensure that innocent low-income families can continue to get stolen #SNAP benefits restored if they are victimized by EBT card skimming & similar scams. This protection is vital as USDA & states continue work to enhance EBT card security.
Ty Jones Cox@TyJonesCox

New blog from @ed_bolen Thousands of low-income families have had their #SNAP benefits stolen via EBT card skimming. Unless Congress acts soon, victims could lose the ability to have their stolen benefits replaced—leaving them with no food & no recourse.cbpp.org/blog/congress-…
