Since everyone usually uses 2 Thess. 2 as a proof text that I am utterly wrong in my eschatology, I am going to give a straightforward exegesis here and now. "Now concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered together to him, we ask you, brothers, not to be quickly shaken in mind or alarmed, either by a spirit or a spoken word, or a letter seeming to be from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord has come," v. 1-2. The Thessalonians had received a report, allegedly from Paul, telling them the Day of the Lord had already begun. The background of his is they were suffering severe persecution (2 Thess. 1:5-12) and they were told that is why. Paul is telling them the Day of the Lord has not begun. The proof of which he would go into the next two verses. "Let no one deceive you in any way. For that day will not come, unless the rebellion comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction, who opposes and exalts himself against every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, proclaiming himself to be God," v. 3-4. Here was Paul's proof the Day of the Lord had not yet begun. It is because the antichrist (v. 3) had not been revealed yet. We know he will be the start of the Great Tribulation (Daniel 9:27) when he confirms a covenant with many for seven years. Paul was comforting the Thessalonians the Day of the Lord had not yet begun. Why? If the Church was meant to go through the Tribulation, why would they be shaken or alarmed (v. 2)? Should they not rather rejoice that their faith was about to be tested and they were about to be purified (as so many on here tell me will happen to the Church here)? If what so many here tell me is true, they shouldn't have been alarmed whatsoever. But they were and Paul was comforting them that they were not enduring the Day of the Lord. So no my friends, this is not a proof text that the Church must go through the Great Tribulation. It's quite the opposite actually.
