@PixelDerg Stock 10ee with the motor generator setup was 3hp, when they moved to the WIAD drive they had a 5hp motor. And these were DC motors so they had a ton of low end torque. To get that low end with an induction motor they had to size up.

@macona I guess I didn't realize how powerful the 10ee was stock. Our shop has a 1hp Hardinge HLV and it can already take way bigger cuts than our larger 3hp jets, just from rigidity alone I guess. I can't imagine what 10hp in that stiff of a machine could do

@PixelDerg Technically it small but it still a 3000lb machine. When monarch started putting three phase motors with VFDs they were putting in at least 10ho motors. This isn’t a little Hardinge. This can move some metal if needed.

@PixelDerg Got it 17 years ago and went through it. Eventually replaced the old drive with a 5kw brushless servo.
