After just under 1.5 years in Germany, my tutor just told me I speak at a C1 level! Still making multiples all grammatical mistakes, but absolutely stoked with the progress!

Language fatigue is a real thing. Studying can exhaust you. I, for example, had to take a mini nap after 2 hours of studying today. If studying sometimes drains you, but you're still enjoying the process, it's a sign you're on the right track.

What I love most about learning languages is this: it has shown me how we are all human. Despite cultural norms and despite language barriers, we are all still human. If anything, culture just influences the mask we all wear. But take the mask off and we are all the same. Human.

Too busy to study? Start with passive listening. Find any podcast or YouTube channel at your level. Play it in the background. It's a super easy way to study! 😊 #languagelearningadvice

Hello! 🌞 A friendly reminder that there are only 4 things you'd need to do in order to learn a language. 1. Listen lots 2. Read lots 3. Talk lots 4. Study grammar a bit Just find a fun way to do those four and you are off to the races! Wishing you the best week ❤️

After 18+ years of learning languages and 9+ years of teaching them, it seems as if the "Fluency Formula" is way simpler that I'd ever imagined. 1. Listen lots 2. Read lots 3. Talk lots 4. Study grammar a bit

"That's a good idea - it'll keep me accountable." A new student of mine just said that to me after I asked her to keep a study log. After every day of studying, she will write down what she did (e.g., do a worksheet, watch TV, etc). It helps keep students on track.

I was thinking about why personality changes when we speak in another language. For me, I think it's because I interact with a different crowd. The people around us influence our personality. "English Azren" keeps a tight circle. "Language Azren" talks to everyone.

@MLautmer Basically it's like "noun" conjugation. Ukrainian for example has something like 14 possible forms (7 cases x 2 because of plural vs singular)

Instagram is my favourite language learning tool. I made a new account where I only follow Ukrainian accounts (I'm learning Ukrainian). The result? All I see is Ukrainian content tailored specifically for my taste. The more I scroll, the more I learn, and the more fun I have.

@KateMcGonigall The accountability sure is tough! Anything I can do to help with that? Happy to set you up with some complimentary accountability calls if you want to try that out. Or even just a clear plan that you can follow so you feel organized & motivated?

@PolyglotAzren Its more a conjunction of opportunities. I have a teacher and zoom lessons and conversation partners in Hebrew and French. I find that motivating. In Portuguese, I need to master the basics. The truth is, in PT I am just not accountable to anyone. I sound defensive lol

@KateMcGonigall It sounds like being efficient isn't the priority, so that's maybe not a problem at all. Just have fun! Progress is secondary to you it seems.

@PolyglotAzren The truth is not very efficient! My French is at B1 my Hebrew is at A2 Portuguese is nowhere! I have lots of time and I do it for pleasure not college or work. If I had to pass an exam things would be different!
