Israel’s Op. Eternal Darkness in Lebanon reminds me of filming in a Beirut hospital during the Israeli invasion of 1982. The doctors had to concentrate on the most life-threatening injuries, which were mostly internal. We filmed in the corridor outside the operating theatre. Each new stretcher paused so a line of young boys could grab the biggest chunks of shrapnel sticking out of the patients and yank them out under the direction of a nurse. The groaning of the victims as the shrapnel came out was something I can’t forget. Four decades on, similar things are happening yet again.

There can be some closure only when all parties are held accountable and they accept their respective responsibilities. Excessive prosecution and censure of just one party, without accepting the attitudes, behaviours and circumstances that led to aggression, sounds just loud , mindless and hollow, not serious or sincere

And by a victim complex. The other day was surprised to see my help’s profile picture, in which was the line , I’m proud to say that I’m a Hindu in marathi followed by Jai Shri Ram . This line is heard in many places. Whoever is stopping them to be a Hindu in a Hindu majority country is difficult to understand. This same victimhood will get repeated in many subsections in many states roiling the social scene. Each to his own, thus foregoing the skills of cooperation and collaboration that have been acquired through years of practice.

The Strait of Hormuz is an international strait. Under UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (which Iran has not ratified) all ships & aircraft enjoy freedom of navigation & overflight. No state can suspend this right. Rights are not subject to negotiation & renegotiation.
